trust me, of all people, i know that it takes more than one player to make a football team. its just that we niner fans are fed up with sub-par QBs. hopefulls Mr. Smith will be better than the Rat.

I have to admit also that I don't watch college football much either. It's only because the NFL completely rules the Bay Area. Why root for Cal and Stanford when you have the NINERS and raiders. College hoops in the Bay Area is a different story. Cal and Stanford usually have teams that can probably beat the Warriors on a consistant basis.

Back to QBs, Niner fans have been tradionally picky about their QBs ever since Golden Joe. We didn't even want Steve Young for awhile (A rushing QB in the West Coast Offense? Unheard of). I actually thought the Niners were gonna go with Rodgers since he's a Bay Area kid, but after holderca1 mentioned Cal's track record for QBs, I'm kinda glad they didn't pick Rodgers....and that just makes my earlier point about Bay Area College football and why we don't watch it.

I'm not really a Niners fan, but you guys might have the real deal in Alex Smith. I watched him several times (went to Wyoming for college, and being from an 'unknown' conference like the MWC, you root for all the teams, except BYU) and he's amazing. He's got size, quickness, and arm strength. Now the only thing is, does he have a team around him that will protect him? Even Elway's first year was a disaster, but he had a solid backup that stepped up in the starting role (former 49er Steve Deberg) and they even made the playoffs that year (defense). BUT, he had established wide receivers, an established O-line and of course the 'Orange Crush' defense was the mainstay.

I hope for your sake, you'll return to prominence. It will take personnel changes, but most importantly, TIME. Be patient. Baby steps, baby steps.

well the niners had better have a decent offensive line if Smith is going to play this year. If their offensive line stinks then no matter what the potential of Smith is he will stink, just like Tim Couch, God can't believe we ruined him.

Thank God for Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel, finally some attention is being paid to the O-line. Andruzzi, Coleman, Shelton. Got rid of average malcontent Verba. Tucker deserves more credit than he gets, just got to see if Faine is going to be another busted Butch Davis draft pick.
