USA Olympic Hockey

Getting excited for Olympic Hockey . . . . even though it will disrupt watching the Blackhawks for a couple weeks.

I kind of dig Ryan's mask!

What a great day of games today.

Miller having a darn good game given how much Canada has been in the zone. And the Russia vs Czech game earlier was great too. Wish these games were played on Saturday night instead of tonight. Not sure I can stay awake for Swede vs Finland game later.

Yeah it was. Miller was superb in the goal.

It seemed to me that Canada had more of an organized play.
I didn't see that great of passing or plays with US - it was more of shoot the puck in towards the front of the goal and then 'opportunistic play' by individuals.

Sort of reminded me of Canada's semi-socialism vs US capitalism. Capitalism is messy, disjointed sometimes, but 'opportunistic play' wins the day.

That's 'Old Time Hockey' at its finest!

The Russians seemed to be the best at controlling the puck into the zone with Canada somewhere in between.

Hi guys, I know very little about hockey but of course I'm rooting for our boys in the Olympics.

Can you guys enlighten me about the team? Are our best NHL (American) Players playing? Isn't the NHL going on right now?

Yeah I've been confused about that too... I thought the Oly's used to be non-pro's only, but they do the same in basketball...

I think the IOC allowed professionals to participate in 1988, but the NHL didn't allow players to particpate until 1998.

The NHL suspends play over the course of the Olympics to allow players to compete for their county. Though this may change after 2010.

Here is the 2010 Men's Roster . .

I like what I'm seeing so far from the US team, including the womens team (40-2 score in 4 games!).

Miller had a good game the other night in goal against the Canadians.

For me though, the break really sucks, my Hurricanes were just starting to pick up their game after a long start to the season. 8-2 over their last 10!
