Olympian Effort....
The hapless Metropolitans - when they are ON they're able to make miracles happen, when they aren't - you just hate to watch'em. They got the uptown 'buy the pennant' neighbors stealing the spotlight regularly. Now when opportunity presents itself those lucky Mets fell into it again! Earlier this year they couldn't get a new stadium without the Yankees gettin one first, and even that was under great debate. Many Mets fans gave up on an updated home field and started to get nostalgic.
Whats wrong with the 'definitely sixties' Shea Stadium? When you see a game there, dontcha remember seein the B&W film of the Beatles concert on the infield?
...But hey is somebody lookin for a reason to build a new sports complex?
'Yeah that's me' says Mr. Met (another sixties throw-back)! Can you believe it?
Those funny guys - the Mets, they get a new Stadium because NYC needs it in order to be selected as the 2012 Summer Olympics Site!
Well, as a true (albeit temporarily transplanted) Met fan I can say 'better lucky than good'.
Ummm, I think that this means a three week road trip in 2012.
So, what other candidate cities are out there that would take the Olympics and a new Stadium?
I thought I heard that NYC was withdrawing from the Olympics because they couldn't build the stadium. Maybe that has changed. Paris, London, Madrid and Moscow are the other finalists.
