That was probably the most horrible call I have seen ever on the baseball field. I would hate to see replay in baseball, but this horrendous error really makes a strong case for it.

Oh god No!!! please baseball takes long enough as it is and Im a huge baseball fan. Humans make mistakes and sometime it sucks when they work against you but no replay in baseball.

I think the call on Crede in the 7th getting tagged out sliding back to the bag was a much more visible of an error than the amount of daylight between the ball and the ground. And the Umps had been calling the game the same way for the entire game (look at reply of previous batters getting called 3rd strikes) . . .catcher should always tag the batter . . just in case.

But I would not be opposed to replay in the playoffs. But I was much more upset with the call on Crede.

I think that guy just blew the call, it happens. Yes it's a tough break for the Los Angeles, Anahiem, San fransisco and Oakland Angels but it happens like that sometimes. At least the NFL send them letters apologizing lol

Exactly. No other argument should be made. Missed call or not, it doesn't matter, it could have totally been avoided. The catcher just needed to do his job. End of story.

Now, about instant replay. I'd much rather see the right calls made, so I'm in favor of it. There will always be human error, why not eliminate it?

The catcher caught the ball... the only time catchers throw to first or tag the man is when the ump is screaming in their ear, "no catch! no catch!" He had thrown the ball towards the mound because he caught the ball and the ump wasn't screaming in his ear.
Oh, and when an ump signals a man out, he's supposed to be out, last time i watched a baseball game it was that way. call me crazy

I have no idea. Maybe it was because he was in the wrong end of the same call last year. Or maybe because the Umpire became mute... but he did make the signal for out.

Oh well, this can go back and forth all day long... series is tied 1-1, and it's looking to be one heck of a series. Can't wait for tommorow.

I can't wait for tomorrow, either, and I always like a good discussion.

Unfortunately, or fortuntely human error is apart of the game, just look at the strike zone between each ump behind the plate. I was watching the pre-game show for the Cards-Astros and they should a good close-up, and it did look like the ball was cupped in the glove, but in one frame, to me, it looked like the ball may have caught the ground just barely.

Yea, a few angles were iffy... but if it did hit the ground some dirt/dust would have come up.

I also like good discussions

You're crazy...

Look, my point is that if there is ever any question is always better to be safe than sorry. Why not just tag him out? Why take a chance? It is drilled in catchers heads from day one to tag the runner or throw to first on a play like that. It doesn't hurt. It doesn't matter if the Ump was wrong or right the whole thing could have been avoided if he would have tagged the runner.

I knew I was

I'm saying that it was such a cut and dry play for the catcher that their wasn't a question in his mind that he caught that ball. He threw the ball towards the mound before he can even think that others had a question about the play. Of course he hasn't had a lot of experience so he doesn't think as fast.

And the freagin' ump signaled A.J. out!

Everyone can blame the ump all day but did he let the guy steal second or hit the game winner off the wall?

Home plate Umps are not being kind to the Angels this series. (Game 4 Findley hitting AJ's mit, and it not being called=double play.)

That had to be the two worst umpired series I have ever seen in the same postseason. Not only that, all the calls went against the two teams that lost the series. The "no catch" call and catcher interference call that went against the Angels. The Grudzelanek foul ball off his foot that was called in play, the ball/strike issue in Game 4, and the non tag on the play at second in Game 6 that all went against the Cardinals. Sounds all rather fishy to me.

Actually the call during the 85 World Series between the Cards and Royals was much worse.

I was only two then, so that's probably why I didn't see it. :P

Well, I didn't see it either, I was six. But it is widely known as one of the worst calls in World Series history.
