His total package is reported to be one of the biggest in global sport and with spin-offs "Brand Beckham" could earn more than $200 million (103 million pounds) over the duration of the contract.
L.A. Galaxy have reportedly offered Beckham around $3 million-a-year (1.55 million pounds), but the 31-year-old will have full control of his world-wide image rights which could bring in another $39 million (20 millions pounds).

I don't think it was just David's decision. Victoria played big part in decision when David moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid.
Looks like Fabio Capelo won't use Beckham for the rest of the season.

Trust me, its not a waste of money.
Real Madrid (Beckham's current team) has many great players, but they can't win anything. Still, they're the richest soccer team in the world. Where ever they go - the stadium's are full of people. Jersey sales, comercials ...
In Europe player transfers are different. There are hardly any trades. If the player is under contact - team must pay money to get him, no trades. That's how smaller teams make living.
I wish Luis Figo came to the USA. He left Inter Milan, but its still unknown what his next team will be.
