2006 Tour de France

Is anybody going to follow it?

My top three picks to win are, in no particular order, Ivan Basso, Jan Ulrich, and Floyd Landis.

Just after I opened this thread Basso and Ulrich et al got kicked out of the tour for doping. Hmmm. For some reason I've lost a whole lot of interest in this year's tour.

I was surprised to hear Ulrich's name among those dopping, knowing that he had always come out around the top... it was a tour killer imo.

I agree with you completely about the whole doping thing being a tour killer. Sad.

Despite all the pre race doping scandals this has turned into an exciting tour. Today's time trial may determine the winner, but maybe not. We may see the first ride into Paris determine the ultimate winner. High drama in sports at it's best.

Well... this is a nice kick in the ********* to the sport. Hopefully its just medicine he was taking for his leg. But still... http://sports.yahoo.com/sc/news;_ylt...v=ap&type=lgns

doesn't matter if it was medicine he was taking for his leg. These people are professional athlete's. they cannot keep on hiding behind the "it's my medicine" excuse.

The only decent cyclist retired last year.

I agree with you about the medicine excuse.

Even the "decent cyclist" has been rumored to have had something in his system.

From a bunch of different reports I have read in about the past year and a half, there is a steroid scandal in every sport... It's horrible

It looks like Floyd Landis will be stripped of his title after his B sample showed synthetic testoserone in his system. I want to believe him when he says he vever took any illegal drugs but it's hard to argue with the lab tests. If he really did take it, knowing he'd be tested after the stage, it's got to be the dumbest thing ever to happen in sports.

I just shake my head in disbelief.
