Video Comparo Roush Stage 3 v. GT500 - Excellent

Check this out, hope the link works. It's a British auto journalist's comparo between the two cars. Includes the best line I've ever heard about handling....listen for it when he's talking about the Roush's "stiff" suspension.

Enjoy - Mark

HP is not King!

Great evaluation. Just proves that hp is not the only thing.

The guy is clueless....he said the GT500 only had 475 HP, a 4.6L, stock brakes and no suspension tuning. He really should have done his research before the test. Also you never test a convertible against a coupe!!! Covetable suspension is always softer than coupes.....

I don't know I figure with the Gt 500 57/43 weight differential and the fact that a convertible has more weight aft of the center of gravity that in this case a convertible GT 500 would handle better then a coupe, and that is backed in the magazines that have tested it. So in this case, I think the Roush is just a better car no offense to the GT 500 crowd. Yes Clarkson does make has some errors in his data. 25 Hp is not going to make up the difference in the handle there.

The Vert GT500 is about 175 lbs heavier than the Fastback and has a smaller anti-roll bar and softer SVT Tuned Suspension. Considering this against the better weight ratio for the Vert, is still a fair comparison with the Stg 3 Fastback.

Yes, it is not all about the HP. Performance packages in the Roush Perspective includes Handling, Power and Styling in an intergrated, harmonious driving machine. Similar to the SVT designs, but more of a road racing feel than a drag car.

That Stg 3 rides on rails;- Try driving one at 95 mph and constantly running between five lanes of 5:30 pm Tuesday traffic and it sticks like glue! She would not relent and there was no turn that could make her roll or sway. The Stg 3 Suspension on the 06-07 Roushes have won accolades from the most discerning European Drivers as well as many NASCAR Drivers.

I've never tried the Shelby but mine is on rails on the road course track. Need racing seats with 5 point harness to hold me in the seat to really test it. In this pic it is a hairpin turn and hardly any body roll at all.
