I was exploring options on getting in line for a next generation Cobra, er Shelby, or whatever and I was told the above. Interesting, anyone else heard this? And what is the reason behind it? Easier to say ST like GT instead of SVT?

I agree! Special Team sounds like something they would call those guys that design and build those short buses.

It was an SVT dealer in Brad's neck of the woods. He said that SVT would be no more and would be known as ST instead. Not sure what it is going to stand for. I always thought SVT sounded funny with Special Vehicle Team. ST fits more in line with GT and SI and M3 and CI. Be interesting to see if it is going to happen at the NY Auto Show.

Who told you that? There was supposed to be an ST focus to replace the SVT, but, I had not heard anything about this. Special Team sounds like the punt return unit from the local high school football team.

There's your problem (see highlight above). It came from a dealer.

My SALESMAN at my DEALERSHIP told me that SVT was no more, period. Like I've stated before somewhere earlier, they're a nice bunch, just not the most informed.

I think that there would have been some kind of announcement before now. But who knows, you may be right.

95% of the dealers don't know jack about what they are selling. Give em a little quiz and see for yourself.

Well put. And probably the most accurate percentage, too.

You're right, they're aren't the most informed. For that reason, I take everything a dealer says with a grain of salt. I mean there are still dealers telling customers that IUP isn't coming back ever.

You got that right! I stood and listened to a salesman go on and on about how a Saleen S281 will do over 200MPH and that Vettes and Vipers didn't stand a chance. Then he went to tell me how the supercharged Saleen will be even faster!

I guess that would depend on whether it has the special "Motor Trend" computer tune or a regular tune.

SVT is still going to be around, they just aren't going to be producing much. I also heard there isn't going to be an 2005 SVT Cobra, which I'm starting to doubt this rumor because the deadline is approaching. All of this I heard from a person who works with Roush, which apparently gets info on a lot of things SVT is doing. He also stated that instead of there being a new Lightning, Roush is going to get ahold of an F-150 and do whatever with it, so yeah. Expect alot of different things at this point.

I can already tell you that this dealer's info is way outdated...
i remember hearing something similar many months ago. But now their plan seems to have changed. The ST focus is already out. There's the Focus ZX4 ST, check it out on the ford site. Basically, its a slightly quicker focus, i forget the specific numbers... I think its got 150hp as opposed to 170hp in the former SVT focus (+ or- 10 hp, i don't remember). They've said SVT cars will only be the really crazy cars, i guess like a 400+ hp mustang and a 270+ hp fusion. I guess the 170hp SVT focus wasn't crazy enough to be SVT. NOw they'll have ST cars that have slightly bumped up performance. That's the latest i've heard.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's NOT an SVT. Dealers have to pay a fee to be an SVT dealership, and if their only going to offer 1 car, deaers probably aren't too keen on forking up the dough just for that.
