I raised this question in another thread, but I think it might get a better response in a new thread. If this is unecessary, feel free to close it.

Anyways, Ford/SVT offered their customers, who took them up on the '04 Power Lease, as being the 1st in line on the available new '07 Cobra. Is this car, the Shelby GT500, the '07 Cobra Ford/ SVT was referring to? If so, how many people does that technically put 1st? If this is indeed a SE run, I would assume that this wouldn't apply, seeing it is a SE and not the '07 SVT Cobra. I'm just trying to figure this out and how this agreement will play out and, who, if anyone gets shafted.

I'm pretty sure that question will get answered over the next few days (or weeks? or months? ). I doubt anyone can answer it right now.

Yeah, I had a feeling this was going to be the kind of answer I got, but thanks anyway.

I was just hoping that someone may be able to shed some light in all this mystery. I suppose another 24 hours isn't that far away.

No one's going to get shafted. We'll find out in a few days if this is the "07 Cobra" from the powerlease. I think it is.
How many people does that put first? However many got a powerlease. I don't think anyone but Ford's RedCarpet Lease Program and SVT know that. I doubt it was more than a couple hundred.

If this is the '07 Cobra, AND IF it's true that they plan on having these to dealers around this time next year, why call it an '07 MY?

what's frustrating is that they limited production to 7500. If this is the car that the power leasers get in line for first, after they get theirs, then the celebs and dealers get the rest of them, and what the dealers have, they double the price on.... those of us that want one get screwed. Am I correct when I say that the plans (X, A, Z, etc.) don't apply to the Cobra? .... and now assuming the GT500?

I think they could go either way with it. But considering that it'll hit the showrooms long after the '06 MY begins, they decided to call it an "early" '07.

EDIT: One more thing - the first GT-500s hit the showrooms in the '67 MY. I'm sure there'll be a 40th anniversay tie-in as well.

I have heard nothing to indicate this car is anything less than a SVT Cobra replacement or that it will only be offered for one year. Also, the SE thing gets butchered in translation. In reality the SVT Cobra was essentially an SE that simply was offered regularly. And, if your measure of an SE is a one year special edition then again, I have heard nothing to suggest this is a one year thing.

Also, folks on the board keep acting like this is far more limited in number than previous Cobra's, and this is simply not true. In the seven model years Ford built it the SN95 Mustang Cobra went over 10k untis in a year exactly three times. And, two of those don't really mean much as one year was 10,005 units and the other was 10,049 units. So, one year of SN95 Cobra production was really more than 10k units, and all of those cars were cheaper than this new one...some much cheaper.

More expensive would seem to correlate to slightly lower production, in this case that slightly lower production would be 7,500 units predicted for this new car. FYI that is about the same number as Ford built and sold Cobra's in 98, 99, and 01. Also, there is little doubt that there will be a car to take up the slack created by this car moving upmarket.

The GT500 is the new uber-Stang.

Yes, but has there ever been this kind of salivating over any Mustang w/ the exception of the '05 in the past 20 years? No. In fact I don't think that is a reasonable comparison because you are comparing the past to an undeteminable future. Sure the buzz will wear down but w/ the way Ford has handled this situation, there is a very high demand to purchase this vehicle and Ford knows they got a(nother) winner on their hands.

The 03 Cobras went on sale in Feb 02.
No one knows for sure exactly when the car will be available. They could put them in dealers anytime between Feb 06 and Dec 06 and call it an 07MY. Maybe they wanted to cover their as-s-es and leave a few extra months of development time in case they found a problem.
