I highly doubt that this is true. There are so many insiders that post here. We would have heard rumors through them a long time ago.

I will be taking this news with a grain of salt.

If this ends up being true, then I blame it on Carol Shelby.

Well, maybe not totally.

Carrol Shelby will kick the bucket soon enough... perhaps they're just waiting for that to say that SVT is back.... just to keep from burnin' the old bastard again. I know he was all bent out of shape over the Cobra name in the first place when he left Ford....
He'll go belly up, die a legend, and while he's takin' a dirt nap, we'll be watchin' the new Ford Mustang Cobra SVT come rollin' off the line.

DIE YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD! DIE!!!

How many body guards does he usually have with him?

... I know this is probably going to cause people to get upset, but I don't really care for this one ...

Online petitions are pointless. They are not taken for any type of credit whatsoever.

I agree somewhat. I think actual letters, and having dealerships voice their customer's opinions are of greater value.

Once again, this gets brought up and the same thing needs to be said. Granted, people over at SVTperformance started faxing/mailing letters, but really, let things run their course until we hear something STRAIGHT FROM FoMoCo! I know its cool to show their support, but we also have no credible evidence yet to jump to conclusions. Internet rumors stink, and thats all this is for now. If I wanted to post right now that Ford was going to make a hybrid Mustang, id put good money on someone out there believing me. Its that simple, just wait until we get the facts straight.

What we know - Lightning, Focus are gone (for now). Cobra is unveiled in 2005 as a 2006 model (straight from MT).

What we think we know - SVT is going the way of the dodo bird.

Think wisely everyone...

I rather doubt the Mustang Cobra would get tanked. At the very worst, SVT as a distinct unit in Ford might get tanked, why though I can't imagine, but the Cobra will get done nonetheless, if sans SVT moniker. Maybe they'll just call it simply the Mustang Cobra or maybe use the Shelby moniker, or something else entirely. But I am confindent the SVT Mustang Cobra, as a car, will survive.

Unfortunatly, there is a high probability that this is true (SVT is gone).

In spite of great new vehicle models like the '05 Mustang, 500 and Freestyle, FoMoCo and GM are in serious trouble. Both are being investigated right now by the SEC regarding their pension funding. GM is assuming 10% return on their pension fund, Ford 9-3/4%. We know that for many years this just ain't going to happen. If the SEC requires that Ford & GM change their pension fund investment returns to something more reasonable, say 5% and then add additional cash funding, then BOTH Ford and GM are effectively bankrupt.

Look at some of the things that Ford has recently done to save money:

Pulled out of F1 racing
Cosworth up for sale
World Rally program may be killed
Jag plant closing
SVT Focus killed
Updated D/EW-98 platform dead
New mid range FoMoCo products to be based off Mazda platform
Higher end FoMoCo vehicles to be based off Volvo platform
North America plant closings
Virtually NO investment in profitable products such as the Panter cars
Rumors that Ford may pull the plug on NASCAR
Rumors that Ford is looking to end its involvement with CHAMP car racing
Ford's decision NOT to go IRL racing, even though Cosworth had a fully developed competitive engine (the one Chevy is using).

These are all signs of a company that is laying awake at night worrying about its cash flow.

As much as I believe that SVT is essential to creating an image for Ford, I doubt that SVT has EVER turned a profit and I think SVT is history.

Although I can't help but think, shall SVT go the way of SVO?
