For giggles I went to the payment calculator.
Price of car $40,000
60 month loan,8.25% sales tax, 6% interest rate,$10,000 down payment
= $627 per month. Gosh- What a buz killer

Better get a bigger down payment HUH?

And that's not even factoring in the gas guzzler tax or dealer markups! Probably closer to $800 per month when all is said and done.

Count me out! I remember the days that I would say things like: There's no way I'd spend $15k on a new car....

Many years later of course I buy 2 in one year that are just under twice that number, just can't bring myself to paying $40k+ for a car... Yet

One thing's for sure - this car will be stupid fast. They say 0-60 in 4.5 seconds? That sounds awfully conservative to me. I mean, didn't the '03-'04 Cobras do it in 4.6 seconds? If it plans on taking on the regular C6, then it needs to match or better 4.2 seconds, which I suspect it will.

Sadly, with that kind of power on tap, I'm afraid it also means that some people are going to buy this car and be dead within a week.

Remember thats why they have 72 and 84 month loans. Pay more of the principal off when you get extra money. (ie tax return)

I have tried so much math to be able to get this car. Some people say algebra is useless wand Calculus too but I have a mulit variable graphing thing where I can move numbers around and see my new paymants.

I need to win the Powerball lottery to afford the GT500, but the odds are really stacked against me because I'm not playing it.

I'm figuring on roughly $750/month with no down payment, 5 years @ 5.5%. If I sell both my current cars, that would equal the payment for the GT500

I wouldn't even want to use it as a daily driver, something I would just use to take to the track and use on the weekends when its nice and sunny. Hard to justify spending that much on a ~5k miles a year car.

does X plan, or any other plan for that matter, even eligible for SVT cars? ..... I remember it was a no go on the GT, but can't remember what they said about the Cobra.

Even it it is, the dealers don't have to accept it. It is totally optional, and may be extremely difficult to get at first. This car will be way too hot.

Heh, I'm guilty of tinkering with the payment calculator on Edmunds quite often trying to get a lower payment somehow. I'd trade my Xterra in, but I'll need that as a bad condition/winter driver. I have at least another year to pay it off, although isn't supposed to be paid off for another 3 years. I'm living like a Scrooge to pay it off early, so I can get this Beast next year or wait for another SE.

You may want to think about leasing. The dealers love it when you lease
