According to Speed Mag., the GT500 will be running the rubber that was developed for the GT. Here's a link to the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar tires. By the looks of these prices, I don't think I'll be marking my territory very often.

Wow, theres always the route of buying cheaper tires to have smoking fun, and maybe save those for serious games.
Can't wait to see you guys burn them though.

I know, that's a boatload of money for rubber. Seems like Ford could shave an easy $1,000 right there and use that $$$ for something else (twin-screw). Good rubber does make a big difference, but come on, 2K!

I was at my local shop hanging out with the boys, working on my car, and this Benz comes in with a flat tire and hardly any wear. Turns out the tire had been punctured beyond repair and a replacement cost $500. I about keeled over, $500 for A tire?

Believe it or not, spending $2K+ for tires has been a deterent for me in getting a Vette and dealing with the over priced runflats.

i realize there are cheaper tires that can handle it, but, If my car will go 150mph, I want tires that are gonna handle that kind of speed and perform well doing it. Same with brakes. These are 2 areas I don't want Ford skimping on.

With that said, my car would probably never see those kinds of speeds.

Another triumph for logic.

Uh.. Camaro Z28s were going 168mph from '98-'02 on $400 factory rubber.

If you have a $10.00 head, buy a $10 helmet.

If you have a $400 rump, buy a $400 set of tires.

I'll take the good stuff.

Not at all. A Z-rated tire is a Z-rated tire. They'll all go the same top speed reliably. What you're really paying for in the $2K set is an extra quarter-G of cornering on a racetrack.

So my head, which is worth at least as much as yours, is equally safe on a cheaper set of equivalently rated tires. And probably safer in the wet on an all season performance Z tire.

Well, my post was not an attack at yours, just disagreeing and adding a little humor. The $10 dollar helmut is an old saying we used to say at the racetrack. Not sure how you have any idea how much value my head has. If you read the original post, it says in the first line "I realize that there are cheaper tires..."

Thanks for stopping by, though.

It's cool man. I get your point. I don't want to pay $500 per tire either. On the other hand, I don't want the cheapest stuff either (which was my point). I'm just happy they are going with the wider tires (we think).

After looking a few pics of the show car and recently photo’d cars, the tire Fords running looks more like the Goodyear Eagle F1 tires - Z rated, ½ the price.

The F1 Supercar tires were the ones that were developed specially for the C5 Z06 Vette. Good to see they're branching out.

Ford doesnt say anywhere those are the production tires, they just say the sizes of them.
