Just came across a stupid article at Automobile.com which had the following quote:

Even sport coupes, such a Fords Mustang GT pale in comparison, and when it comes to handling corners even the blue-oval brands supercar-defying Shelby Cobra GT500 will most likely be left eating the SRT8s proverbial dust.
Uh-huh.

Don't get me wrong, the Charger SRT-8 is pretty cool - and a great example of how to do wheel size, ride height and offset properly - but at 0-60 in 5.4 seconds it's hardly a Mustang GT killer, never mind a GT500 killer.

The likleyhood of a 2 ton car with 50-75 less hp beating anything other than its Left turn wannabe owners brains out is slim. I an starting to think this new-era performance war is gonna cause not a few VERY unhappy incidents. As people who have no business getting off a bus, get into not a few 400+ horse cars and trucks. And BTW that was the absolute worst car review I've read in at least 20 yrs."We laughed, giggled like schoolgirls, chortled deviously as we shot past an Escort wagon, out through the blackened tunnel like if shot from a cannon, into blinding sunlight, and then downward once again, the mountain curves beckoning us forward like a wicked siren to our certain demise." Jesus we can only hope. :bang:

I would really hate to speculate on this car, knowing its older Sibling is a Viper.. It must be pointed out that Ford needs to upgrade standard HP for the Mustang GT to no less than 385HP which is 327RWHP... It is absolultey imperative for the GT to have all of 327RWHP bone stock.. Its actually very insulting Ford chose to keep the HP on the car to a level which can easily be contested from a variety of cars, which are not even considered muscle cars..

Lets face it, this SRT8 should be a well thought out package.. With the Mustang GT being Fords most current innovation in terms of affordable performance, a raw HP increase should take place, and fast..

Of course for Mustang GT owners who invest in some type of aftermarket power-adder, this car is not a threat.. However, more forethought should have been planned in terms of raw factory HP.. There is no doubt a Mustang GT on a road course would put a pretty good beat down on this car.. However, at some point being chased deep into a corner by a HEMI will take a mental toll on the driver..

This is what I am extremely upset with Ford about.. Dodge pull no punches with a 6.1L Hemi! Ford is grasping for straws with the 4.6L.. You mean to tell me a 5.8L motor cant be installed in good faith, or as an option for the Mustang GT? Its ridiculous.. Utterly ridiculous..

I say Ford should make this an option.. Charge us an extra $2500 or $3000 bucks, I dont care.. I just wont get leather and A/C..

Well, I'll haggle for the AC atleast.. But screw the leather.. Give me my 5.8L N/A, or dont give me anything!

That Hemi is pushing that horse power without boost - wait until the tuners, like Kenny Bell, get there hands on that car. Have you seen what SHM has done to the SRT/10 truck? Either way - I am digging the horse power wars! Its my high school days all over again!

Maybe not. Check your headlines. It could come in at more than $39k...now . At least D-C gave their faithful good estimates of production dates, power, performance, & price, as did GM on their Z06. We'll have to wait & see.
I don't know what Ford expects, but this weekend {after HTT's $45K+ statements, accurate or not}, there are alot of unhappy Ford faithful. D-C & GM could actually benefit from this announcement.

Yeah, they're going to need a special edition model in the 375 horsepower range for an additional $3K-$4K REAL FAST if this keeps up.

There's a ton of competition coming out, and two years from now, an '05 bone stock Mustang GT is gonna get spanked by everything on the road!

I just did, actually. This is what I said:

Trevor:

With respect to your above-referenced article, you provide the Charger SRT-8 and I’ll meet you at the track with the Shelby GT500. We’ll see who spanks who.

Please...
If I get a reply I'll post it here.

I try and wonder, who is ford trying to keep happy? It appears Dodge and GM dont mind throwing down the gauntlet when it comes to cubic inches.. I can remember back in the day, when my buddies Trans-AM used to eat my 93 Cobra up, bone stock..

In highschool, another buddy of mine had the White Anniversary Edition Trans-AM, and I had a GT350, 5.0.. He used to always teaz me on the freeway.. Other guys had 350CI IROCS.. Other guys had 427 69 Camaros.. I have been hounded by GM long enough.. When is it gonna end..?

Now we roll into 2005, and here we are again.. On the short end of the stick..

I'll tell you what, an SRT8 with a blower is gonna get to 800RWHP+.. We'll see it.. Just wait and see..

MSP,

Its hardly imperative that Ford change the GT at all, they seem to be selling just fine, and performing just as well.

Lets compare the SRT8 to the GT500 like the original post ...

The GT500 will destroy it, swap in a KB blower with a 16 psi pulley, header back exhaust, tune it, all for another $6k and youll have a solid 700hp to the wheels.

And dude, the 6.1 HEMI is really not the greatest application for supercharging...so unless youre gonna forge internals and lower compression ratio i have no idea where youre getting "800RWHP."

MSP, I agree with your reply. With all obvious reasons aside, I.E.: Profits, Pricing, Marketing, or whatever, I am sick and tired of reading about other cars, like family sedans out there making more HP than a freaking Mustang!! 300c with a 425 hp Hemi in it??? Being compared with a stang, it's a Family car!!!!!!!!!!! All I am saying is if a Toyota or any other family car out there can have over 300 HP why can't the stang??? Excluding the Cobra..of course........

I've said it before, I'll settle for an H.O. option, that is a 4.6 or 5.4 with forged internals and an iron block for $1500 or $2000 as an option, ala terminator style. If Ford was smart and so serious about making the stang huge again with all of it "packages", simply offer the GT with the 03 -04 cobra short block then slap the 3 valve heads on it. I am sure there would'nt be too much for Ford to do to make that happen, not to mention that short block has been put into 1000's of Stangs, so everyone knows it's Rock Solid. I would pay $3000 for an option like that in an instant, maybe comes in at 350 HP with a super stout bottom end, for super charging ready to go, without having to take my car to a shop and go through all the hastle to build up the current stock bottom end??? you bet your A s s.

Oh well I'll snap out of my dream now...........

SO IT CAN BE SOLD FOR $25,000!!!

With all obvious reasons aside?

Man, with all obvious reasons aside, I.E.: gravity or whatever, I am sick and tired of being told that humans cant fly!

How can you say "excluding the Cobra of course..." ???

That is what the Cobra is FOR, ppl who want their stang to have over 300hp and can afford it.

Edit:

In response to your edit, I agree. Ford should offer a H.O. option, fortunately S/Es should be coming along with suitable hp increases..eventually.

Come on man be reasonable, I want a Cheap mustang too, Ford did an outstanding job, I am not questioning that, but at the same time there is no reason why Ford can't add alittle HP to plate for "People" as "You" say want or don't mind ponying up just a little more for a little more. come on please tell me you didn't read that one sided.that's part of what the COBRA IS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Huh?

Like...punctUation is cool and stuff.

Yes, in my haste I made a typographical error. Lets see:

typo vs. unintelligible, comma strewn, stream of consciousness, incoherent blathering

Which is worse?

Take a look at how you spelled punctuation...anyway this isn't english 101, and this isn't the place for this, so I am going to end these stupid one line reply's. It's just a stated opinon, if you don't agree that's fine, at least you agreed with some of it, I appreciate that.
