Thumbs up

When Ford puts the GT500 into production, can we expect the 14 inch brakes to stay. Sounds like one of the changes will be going down to the 18 inch wheel. Which I prefer anyway. Will the 14 inch brakes fit on an 18 inch wheel?

You can fit 14" brakes on an 18" wheel depending on the design of the wheel and the brakes, so it's certainly possible!

I agree. It looks like there is some room, for a smaller wheel I'm hoping that the 19"ers are at least optional. They do look nice on the car, and not too big like I was originally thinking.

Since the brakes are right off of the GT supercar, I would think it would be cheaper to keep them. I also do not see why 19's are out of the question. Ford has 20" wheels on a couple trucks now, and 22"s going on the next F150 HD, even the marauder had 18"/19" F/R, so its not like they are afraid to use them. I can't remember if the GT has 18" in the front and 19" in the rear or 19/20, I will have to check the one in the showroom on Monday.

The GT rides on 235/45ZR18 in the front and 315/40ZR19 in the rear. From the Ford's website.

The 14" brakes will fit with 18" wheels but will be a pain to clean the wheels. It should have the same gap in between as the 13" brakes with the 17" wheels.

If 13 inch cobra brakes fit in a 17 inch wheel why cant 14 inch brakes fit in an 18 inch wheel? You are still talking the same caliper to wheel clearance. 4 inch difference on both. The caliper itself shouldnt be any taller considering even a 6 piston caliper is about the same height on top of the rotor as a 4, 2, or even 1 piston.

While 14" brakes can work with 18" wheels, I hope Ford steps up an offers the 19's as they appear on the concept...it will help ease the pain of not having an IRS

Use good pads and you never have to clean dust again.

Rims are ok. I think they look to much like the older z06 rims. This car has such a retro look, why not more of a classic looking wheel?

Not to flame here but when the 03 cobra was introduced at a car show the rotors were cross drilled, but the production rotors are not. Allot of people got their hopes up for nothing. Not saying it won't happen, but don't be disappointed if those brakes don't make it to production.

Oh yeah, I like the wheels, they remind me of the wheel covers from the 60's.

Hey Laser98,
What wheels look like wheel covers from the 60's? The show car's wheels.

I heard 14" cross drilled were a "go" for the GT500, even with the 18" wheels. We'll see.

the brake equipment on the show car is Brembo..... I doubt they'll stick around for the production run.

well, all we can do is hope the rumors pan out... at this point, I'd be happy to take delivery of one with 4 wheel drums... I'm hoping there's enough availability on them that I can get my hands on one.
