850hp mustang in Motor Trend
850hp mustang in Motor Trend
Any read the new Motor Trend.. they had a american tuner shootout against a stock Z06.
The mustang was made by Livernois Motorsports

I thought it was a good article.
I can not beleive the amount of hp and torque that they got from the mustang...it was like 950lbs of torque with a 4.6 with a Supercharger...i couldn't beleive it!

What was the point of brining a tuned Ford GT to the test? In every comparison I have yet seen between the stock Ford GT and stock Z06 the Ford GT has outrun the Chevy every time. The point of this is to prove what? That a tuned GT can possibly achieve orbit?

i think it was also to show how the Tuned Ford GT was against the twinturbo Viper and vette.

MT's been increasingly anti-Ford ever since blondie took over. It's really an anti-domestic bias, but when its Dom v Dom they always side with GM or DCX. I think the tuned GT was a way to give the GM and "out". They can say "sure the GT won, it was tuned and the Z06 is just stock!" While glossing over the fact that the stock GT pounds the Z06 into next week.

No it doesnt. Though it should considering it costs twice as much.

The new vette's an incredible car, so is the Ford GT. I don't think the price difference is uncalled for. Sure the hard numbers don't put the GT that far ahead of the vette, but the car as a whole is a totally different kind of experience... not that i've driven any of them.
I agree that the GT doesn't pound the Z06 into next week, but i also don't think it necessarily should either. Z06 is a better performance bargain, but the GT is sooo much more desirable, on a completely different level.
That Viper is insane. And ya, pretty sick that a mustang was included in that comparo.

These are the MT specs for the Livernois Mustang:
-840 Hp (Hp at the rear wheels is about 740.8 @ 6,977 rpm)
-1,094 Lb/Ft of Tq (Tq at the rear wheels was dynoed at 962.6 Lb/Ft)
-Braking: 60-0 mph in 114Ft
-0-60: 4.7 Seconds
-Quarter Mile: 12.9 Sec @ 119.7mph
-Covered the Mile in 31.1 Seconds at a speed of 174mph.
-Price was listed at $69,995 ($43, 075 in Modifications)

Yeah the quarter mile and 0-60 times are a little dissapointing, especially compared to what some magazines quoted the stock Mustang GT at. (Motor Trend tested the stock Mustang GT at 13.5 sec @ 103.5mph, and their first test drive in Nov. 2004 listed the 0-60 as 5.1 sec)

I don't really know. I would say that to get traction for the 1/4 times these cars are capable of, they would have to have near full drag suspension set-ups. I would think this would alter their looks rather significantly, thus changing one of the key aspects/attributes of these tuner cars.
My thinking is that these cars are built more for speed than 1/4 ETs, but I didn't build them so i dont really know, I'm just spitballing.
However, ultimately, I agree that it is slightly ludicrous to put that much power into a car like a mustang that is so aerodynamically limited without fairly significant modifications...

http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...t+sideview.jpg I find it interesting that MT said that another tuner was called for a Mustang but backed out at the last minute, thats why the Livernois car was built for the comparo test.Wonder which it was?
Fairly sure when I read the article they said there was some failure which they tried to fix but left the Mustang down on power. I'm sure with that much HP and TQ, that thing should've been doing MUCH more than it did.
