Just my opinion. The GT-R might "hint" at some future Mustang variant. However, even if it does I seriously doubt it hints at the next Shelby/SVT model. The only things I could see making it onto a Cobra would be the wing and the front bumper w/ it's foglight hole placement and those would be sketchy. That wing would only ever make it onto an R-Model too.

Ford has made it pretty clear they want the next Shelby/SVT to compete with the M3 and have a pretty upscale image for a street car. This car was obviously done without either of those things in mind.

To me, even when I first saw the car, it looked like a modern day interpretation of a race ready Boss 302. Now that we know it has the 5.0L Cammer crate motor in it there is little doubt in my mind that this is exactly what the GTR concept is supposed to be. Headlights done in a retro 1970 fashion? A yellow paint scheme with a blacked-out hood? The full-on race ready treatment? If this car hints heavily at anything as far as styling goes it's a Boss 302 revival. Although, I could see a headlight treatment like that making it onto a Mach-1 but I won't hold my breath.

As for a 5.0L revival, as long as it's in a Boss 302 or something else besides the next Shelby/SVT Cobra I am happy about it too. Brad's recent post on here about the 500+hp 5.4L only reinforces what I have long thought and hoped for, and what the rumour mill has kept coming back to. The next Cobra will have a blown 5.4L.

IMHO this is very good news as of all the motors people have realisitically hoped for none offers greater potential factory hp, and no other even comes close in offering enthusiasts easy and inexpensive modability. Even if the car itself is expensive. Here's to the next Cobra...rwd...500+hp 5.4L supercharged V-8....and a look slightly reminiscent of the concept. Where do I sign?
I totally agree with J. This would be the next Boss, if anything. The Boss was based on the Trans-Am series racing. Yes, without the big fin in the back, this design ROCKS
For the Cobra/Shelby/SVT, I want the 5.4 blown, the "Shelby" taillights, Inboard highbeams, twin '67 Shelby style scoops, and a ducktail spoiler (see attached photoshop from "Photoshop" thread--THIS is what I call PERFECTION!!!!! :worship: ).

IMHO the flared fenders have a chance too. It would make sense if they want to give the car a meaner look over the GT (like the M3 does over the 330). If the car is going to be in the 45k range, some unique body panels could well be in the budget.

I agree the 5.0 Cammer has no chance of production in the 2006 Cobra. A 5L modular is probably in the Mustang's future, but I'd place it closer to end of decade. Although I think its possible we'll see warranteed 5L Mustangs from tuners "soon".

If they were to use the 5.0 Cammer, they would have to detune it so that it would be emmisions legal. If they did that, then I would imagine that they would use it to make the BOSS 302 again. If that's the case, then that wuold be SWEET. But like you said mkoesel, I don't think the Cammer has a chance of production. Too bad. :stubborn:

Funny. That webpage you listed shows the GT-R being a 2004. Typo?

Well, no its a 2004 concept
Not 2005 (considering April THIS year (2004) is the Mustangs 40th Anniversary...if it was 2005, it would be 41...)
Ya dig

How is that rice? That wing on a 110-hp Civic is rice, but on a 440-hp Mustang purpose-built RACE CAR is NOT RICE!!!

Brad - you have the best site in the world :worship: ...but i gotta disagree with that. that wing just screams rice to me. From the back it just looks too "added on", like it really wasnt meant to be there in the first place. The specs on that car are awesome though....gotta love that engine. I love everything else about that car...well except maybe the color...orange isnt my thing, and I will be the first one to get a production model in my city, but i gotta stand up for my dislike to that wing.

I agree, I think the wing would be rice on a V-6 Stang, but that is fully functional, if not required.

I think we've lost touch with what the word "rice" means in the automotive world. It's not rice if it's fully functional, and you can bet everything on this GT-R is. The same wing on a 202-hp 2005 Mustang V-6 would be rice. On this 440-hp race car, it's required.

I think your right, we have lost touch with the rice term. I totally understand that a wing like that is required on a race car, i guess i wish that they could make it a little shorter

As someone else mentioned on another forum...remember that "rice" emulates real racecars, not the other way around. After all, what's keeping us from calling the 2000 Cobra R rice with that big wing it had? The fact that it was functional (one awesome car too).

The Term Rice is WAY OVER USED! This is a Purpose Built RACE CAR! Ricers are those Cheesey Little Civic's, Acura's, Mitsu's With the Coffee Can Mufflers And The HUGE Spoilers, That Sound like they're powered by Briggs & Stratton! Ricers Just take the look, from ACTUAL RACE CARS to make their Little Go Cart Look Like it's Fast, Cause it Aint! (END RANT)

I think everyone thinks that I dont like the new GT-R because I said the wing looks ricey to me. I LOVE this car, i would sell my left AND/OR right kidneys to have one, and I think its going to beat the heck out of a lot of cars. I even have the wallpaper that brad posted on my dual screen setup...it looks nice ...I just wish that they could have made the wing a little more subtle and still made it fully functional.
