This is what I heard from a salesperson at a local ford dealership. I could not resist driving to the dealership and checking out the new stang. I have to stay away because then I will end up driving one home I am holding out for now. Anyhow, this person says that in 06 a shelby, i.e., Eleanor will come out as a 2 seater and will cost 100, 000. Now, I am not an idiot, so I took this with a very small grain of salt. Is there any validity to his assertion or was he trying to BS me. I think it may be a bit of both. I am hoping for a MACH sometime in the future, can't wait. lastly, do you guys think we will be seeing a Z28 sometime in the next 5 years. thanks

I look for Chevrolet to resurrect the Camaro in a few years, probably within 5 years. I haven't heard anything about a Shelby in '06.....but there will be a Cobra or Mach 1 in '06 from what I am hearing.

there is a shelby in 06 but it is not going to be a mustang, there will be a shlby cobra (a retro one) to replace the Forg GT. It will use the same chasis and the test engine is a v10

Giddyup: I anticipate that we will see the Z28 within 5-7 years. With lots of horsepower. Chevy will copy ford mustang in terms of an all-retro rendition of the z28. it will definitely be worth looking at.
Turbo05: good point. that's right I remember from the LA 04 car show that ford is going to be releasing a 2 seater Shelby Cobra (like the concept). It will not, however, be a shelby mustang. Darn, I was hoping that we will see a shelby stang in the years to come. I am sure we will but we must be patient. In time, we will see a resurgence of the Eleanor Mustang as an SE model.

Here is the Shelby Cobra..

http://fast-autos.net/ford/fordcobraconcept.html

and the Shelby GR1

http://fast-autos.net/ford/fordgr1.html

both have been at shows are suppose to be built as for the Shelby Stang there are rumors of 2 to come a 350GT and 500GT like the good ole days, I believe this is going to happen (I read an article in5.0 Mustang back when they where just starting to release concept pics of the 05 stang) that Carol Shelby had signed on to do just this with Ford and this is why he brought back his Cobra and this new GR1 (which kind of feels like the later 60s Cobras he did). It is suppose to be his last hoorah so to speak in building cars, while I look foward to there being Shelby stangs back on the road I will be bumbed if he does indeed retire from creating.

Other great pics of Fords...

and Shelbys...

Further thoughts.... I am not sure what they can do with this new Shelby Stang, because of the room in between already planned SVT, Ford GT and Shelby Cobra (throwback to original pre Shelby Stangs). What I mean is current GT-4.6 V8 $25-28,000, SVT-5.4 Supercharged under $40,000, Shelby Cobra V10 approx. $100,000 (supposedly), Ford GT- 5.4 Supercharged $120,000 (sticker goodluck finding one under $250,000; I've seen one for $500,000), where does the Shelby Stang fit in? Perhaps 5.0, $50-80,000 or maybe even the new Hurricane engine. What do you guys think?

EDIT: Would you buy a Shelby that had a smaller engine than the SVT and pay more for it just because it was a Shelby?

one thing i've learned from reading this website day in and day out.... NEVER trust what a salesman tells you.... unless its from a very reliable source.... we all learned that back in sept/oct- that salesman didn't ( and still dont) know what they're talking about as far as when things are supposed to be released... etc...- so i'll continue to live by "i'll believe it when i see it"

Carol Shelby IS working on a new Mustang based on the '05, but I don't know if it will be sold through Ford, or through Shelby of America. Model year is as yet unknown.

There's a been a couple of threads on this before.

Not bad though and seems to hit the mark. Maybe GM should have students design more of the new models. Looks like the Chevy convertible truck is selling less than the Tbird.

No Shelby in 06, and no Shelby Cobra roadster. Its dead. Chris Theodore was the major push behind the Cobra roadster, and he just "retired". Phil Martens, and most of the exterior design staff thought the car was butt-ugly.

The focus of SVT now is doing the Cobra Mustang for 2007. Remember, in the Ford Mustang 40 years of fun book, they began the S197 project in 1999, froze the design in 2002 and it took 2.5 years to get it on the road. There's no way a newmodel/version can arrive in 2006. They're still concentrating on launching the 05 with no quality glitches.

Yup true statement. Only the courts will decide if Chevy can call it a Camaro again. They would probably need to prove that every bit of design and engineering ocurred AFTER the plant was demolished AND there was no intent to break out of the contract early. Chevy told Canada there was NO market left for the Camaro and Firebird so they will have to do a lot of wrangling to all of a sudden come up with one. Mustang sales most likely will not be justification to reveive the brand name. There will have to be a wholesale market switch to RWD V-8 powered coupes and that is not going to happen anytime soon.

Wow! Some people spend time looking at the pretty pictures and don't bother to read the article. That's not a GM design. It's some students dream of what a new Camaro might be. There's been zero information from GM about a new Camaro. There's only been ruimors and wishful thinking from the internet community.

:worship: WOW, fellas. If I could get my hands on that machine I would be a happier man. LuVVV those rims. Now those are a set of rims!!!As far as trusting salespeople, I am very cautious. It is like any job, they are good cops, bad cops, good doctors, etc...Therefore, buyer beware and be astute. Anyhow, Thanks for the feedback. I am going to wait for an SE model before I make my purchase. But it is getting hard. Also, I personally think it will be a long time before we see the Z28. But if it does come back, I think the mustang will have some serious competition in terms of horsepower and overal performance. Come on fellas GM make the venerable Vette. but boy that Z28 sure was a fugly one.
