I was just wondering if anyone has heard close numbers on the new Cobra yet? Or heck lets all just take a guess. I will say 405hp and a price tag of 36k for the hard top. Does this sound about right? I hope so because I can't pay much more than that and want a stock factory supercar. I don't want to bolt on a supercharger to a GT. If it does come in around 36-38k, this car will be the ULTIMATE bang for the buck performance car. Performance numbers that match the new Corvette and for 20k less. That would be sweet!

It sounds like the car will be significantly more than the current car. I personally don't think they will hold the car back for 2 years only to release it with a few more HP than the current model. I'm saying 450-500 HP and a price around 50K.

I say 450-500hp/tq and a price of $40-42k for coupe 45-47 for vert. Still a heck of a bargain for the power/price.

I'd agree, the Cobra appears to be going upmarket a notch or two, probably directly in competition with the M3. There will likely be more mid-level models, however, to fill the gap that would open up between the GT and Cobra, perhaps a "Mach I" for the drag racers and a "Boss" of some sort for the road racers.

The mid-level models will probably come after the Cobra. At Nashville, I asked Art Hyde (Chief Program Engineer during design and engineering of the 2005) during a question and answer period if there would be any variants before the Cobra and he said "NO". He also stated that one could expect the Cobra sometime in calendar year 2006. In regard to this latter statement, he asked for and got agreement with another Team Mustang individual after he made the statement.

So other than the Cobra, should we expect special editions in 2006? If indeed it is priced at 40-47k, that might put me out of my price range and I will look for different options.

Whenever the S/E is released, it should land between the GT and Cobra pricewise. Similar to the Bullitt and MAch 1. Latest rumors say no SE until at least '07. I wouldn't believe that until you see it. It could go either way, but, they are just rumors. Wait it out if you need more than the GT can offer. Take a close look at the GT and consider mods if you can't wait. A GT with the standard upgrades (CAI, Chip, Exhaust) might be a very nice car at under $30k. Add a supercharger for under $35k and you have a very, very nice car on your hands.

I know what you mean, but, I would prefer NOT to see something from Ford confirming no SE.

I dont think their will be a mach 1, i recently got the brochure from ford on the 2004 model mustangs and it clearly states 4 times, that the mach 1 ends in 2004.

I'm thinking 425-450hp at $39K.
(I sure hope it's under $40K and most importantly they don't dork it up with stripes, fins and wings. The clean design of the 2004 Cobra is perfect)

They basically said the same thing for the 2003... that it was a 1-year only specail edition.

Never say never... if they feel they could make money on it, they would bring the COBRA II styling back

That was a good, somewhat disturbing book/movie.
