Honestly i am not really a good critic for photography but i think you can do better. The shot compostion is bland and is too balanced to make it interesting. This is just my opinion on it, I hope it doesn't sound too critical.
I know you have a creative eye and i know you can do better.

Personally, I think I would have turned the syringe around, to where the push part of it is out of your depth of field and have the needle in focus (assuming no blood was on it), with maybe one drop of fluid coming out or so. Also I would have rotated the syringe clockwise 45° so that the where hte needle part meeds the plastic was barely covering the ZAR part of hazard.
Thats just my take on the composition.. remember its purely subjective and opinion. What looks good to you, may not to someone else, and may look amazing to someone completely differnet. Its all in what you like.
Your color, sharpness, DOF, though are really good.

I do like that one! Its good all the way around.
I like it, definitely good that she isn't dead center... some folks forget that you have the whole of the picture to play with, so to speak. Not sure about the darkening of the edges though... seems like she's in some sort of cave.. perhaps that was what you were going for though.
the trick is don't show the photos that don't turn out! I'm sure even Ansel Adams had plenty of photographs that didn't turn out good. But he probably didn't put them on display
To me there are 3 types of photos I take. Ones that don't turn out, ones that do turn out and are good enough to show (email, forums, harddrives), and ones that turn out great enough to print. Nothing like seeing a nice 11x14 print of your best shots!
The better you get, you don't get more trigger happy, you get more selective with your shooting. If I know it's probably not going to turn out, then I don't waste my time! (even if I'm shooting digital, but more so when I'm shooting film)
