Your absolutley right.. On the 05 V6 4.0 SOHC motor, most will try and debate that the power drops off after 5000 RPM.. This is garbage.. My car pulls hard all the way to redline, and is where I shift it, depending on the situation.. Now my first dyno showed peak power and torque to drop off at around 5650rpm, but while testing on my own, like you said, a detected pull can be felt towards the redline..
Conversley, on all my other V8 Mustangs such as an 88 Saleen 5.0, 1993 Cobra, and 1995 GT, these cars showed and you could feel a flat spot after 5000 rpm, so for them the proper shift point would be around 5000..
But I am with you on this Brian.. Shift that baby at the redline, based on the situation, because you and I both know we feel something up to this point definately!

Wont this kill your engine if you go past 5000 RPM too many times. I also get this squeamish feeling in the pit of my stomach when I go over 4000. I'm just expecting something to break, and just imagine forking over the money when my 100000 miles warranty "doesn't cover that".
I used to run a modified RX7 up to 8000 RPMs on a regular basis and know that there are engine that can handle it, but on a brand new car like my 06 4.0L...is it smart?

Well, like I said, peak power does not happen until after or around 5650rpm.. So if your afraid to go over 4000rpm, your engine should last easy 1,000,000 miles.. I'll be happy if mine last 500,000.. But will except 300,000...
