Arrow What do you guys think of the K&N intakes ? CARB Legal?

I was looking and it seems that K & N is the only company right
now with a street/CARB Legal intake?

What do you guys think of them?

Do you need a tune with the K&N set up?

I had one for about 3 months before I got a tune. Worked fine without the tune but didn't get the SOTP feel untill the tune.

Like Leo, I had one too. Worked fine, but was glad when I switched over to the C&L as it provided more power.

When it comes time to smog, swap back in the factory airbox (and tune).

I love my K&N. Havent done anything else performance wise, and I can tell you I can feel her breathe better, my HP is higher, she overall is a much happier pony with it.

No tune...nothing. In fact, mine was the first K&N intake to be placed on an '05, and left on.

i wouldn't waste my time with the k&n. you won't get the full benefits of an aftermarket intake.

you will probably need a tuner anyways if you plan on doing any more mods. plus it will give you the benefit of faster throttle response. before my turbo, i had the jlt and bamachip race tune. that was a really good set-up.

get a proper intake with the tune and like tacobill said, just swap it back when it is time to get checked out. it takes like 10 minutes to put the stock intake and tune back in.

I am assuming that you are in California which is why you are asking about the CARB legal CAI. Let me suggest that you say screw CARB and buy a good CAI+Tune and simply keep your stock air intake in case you need it and when you will need it for your first smog in 6 years.

I would suggest a C&L or JLT CAI with either a Brenspeed Tune or Bama Tune
