V6 MPG question

I'm sorry if this is a re-post but I was wondering what the average MPG you guys are getting on your V6s. The only thing I have in my car is a K&N air filter, which is supposed to help gas mileage. You are supposed to get 19+, but I've been getting 17.4. Is this normal?

Thanks

Hmmm... that's my GT's lowest recorded mileage. I usually floor it off the line, but I tend to drive close to the speed limit.

I'm averaging right around 24 city/highway in mine.

That's what I figured. What do you think could be wrong? The only 2 reasons I can think of is that maybe it doesn't have high enough mileage, it's got 1300, or maybe because I really haven't gone on the high way with it. What do you think?

What is the nature of your driving? I always get 23 to 25 in mine (auto tranny) with about 75% freeway driving. If you do a lot of stop and go driving you're going to get lousy mileage even with the V6.

These cars have pretty lousy city MPG, which is sadly 90% of my driving. I routinely get about 17mpg on a tank with my short drives to work and the gym and other local places I go. According to the trip computer I only average about 25mph (miles per hour) over the course of a tank of gas. My fuel efficiency has dipped as low as 15.5mpg when I have driven less than 4 miles a day over several days.

One time I filled up and took a cruise involving freeways and fairly open roads where I was able to do 50+ all the time. Over 162 miles my average speed was 55mph, and my fuel efficiency was almost 26mpg.

So to get highway MPG, you *really* have to do highway driving.

S. Subzero You are in the same boat as I am then. 90% of my driving is city, and my average speed is 26. I'm glad it's not just me then. I thought there was something wrong.

Thanks guys. vbmenu_register("postmenu_708169", true);

Weird how the GT's get as good/sometimes better gas mileage than the 6ers.

Yeah, it's surprising. From what I've read the manual GT gets nearly identical mileage to the auto V6.

Depending on how I drive, my in town MPG can be dismal, but I average 17 in town. Highway, I'm doing 26-29. Now, I am using a premium gas tune so that probably puts me a bit behind, but, with a tune I found my MPG went up quite a bit.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone else noticed that the 2007 V6 Mustang's MPG in the city decreased? The GT city MPG is 17 and the V6 is 18 (05-06 was 19). I guess this will allow dealers to push customers to gett the V8 with the information of pretty much identical gas mileage.

My autos mileage sucks- Because I take off to fast. Maybe 240 miles per tank.
The manuals got a LOT better mpg. Averaging 280 miles per tank.

Right now I am getting 24.8 MPG in my 06 V6 Manual.
That is mixture, but mainly city driving.
I have just over 10k miles on my car.
I filled up today and it said I had just over 400 miles to empty

I get about 270 to 280 highway and about 240 city driving.

V6 Manual, but then again I am always running it through the gears and driving in 4th a lot.

I can squeak 275-300 before filling up-about 50/50 city highway driving estimate about 20-21 mpg. Have not done any long road trips-so cannot gauge straight highway driving. Very little WOT operation.

Ive squeaked out 30.x MPG before on a road trip, and that was before all my mods etc. With a tune Id expect slightly better mileage, same with a higher octane.

Most of my driving right now is 100% city. Heck, it all is. Gas mileage sucks in city. Because of the price of gas right now my tank hasnt been full in like a year. I never fill up more than halfway.. the top half can be rusted and Id never notice :P

I forgot to chime in here... just for reference, we got about 22 MPG average driving down to Mississippi from CO a few weeks ago. That is with the A/C running and driving at 80-100 most of the time. Also, max boost was at around 14 psi.

28 mpg on the highway is average. Changing the fuel filter after 20,000 miles helps.
