V6 mods from 5.0 Mustang magazine
Headers were about my third mod... installed it after a GT single take-off axle-back and a K&N drop-in filter. After the headers, I didn't do a dyno... but, the sound improvement was nothing short of amazing. And, I noticed a nice gain in the butt dyno. I could chirp the tires much easier and low end torque was noticeably stronger.
The only dyno I've had was right after the Auburn/3.73 gears install. I was running Doug's 91 octane performance tune for the C&L intake. This was his first C&L tune for the auto, which he later corrected after finding the auto has different air/fuel ratio needs than the manual. Also, I was runningg 92 octane gas at the time... when ordering the tune, I must have done a typo and told him my area had 91 octane. So... let's just say, the car did not have the ideal tune.
On a Mustang Dyno, I ran 189.8 max rwhp and 199.8 ft-lbs tq. I thought this was a little low, comparing my numbers to others in the forum. Then, realized everyone else has Dynojet numbers, which are generally regarded to show 10-15% higher than a Mustang Dyno. So, I think I'm doing pretty well.
Doug recently sent updated tunes. I'm now running the 92 octane performance tune, corrected for the 3.73 gears and the C&L's new air/fuel ratios. I thought the previous tune felt good.... this one blows it away.. far more aggressive. Haven't been back to the Mustang Dyno yet. Once I do, I'll also get some numbers from a Dynojet shortly thereafter.

I just dont think the gains are that significant for the money you spend on all those bolt ons.
A S/C will run about the same money and it has a definate measurable hp gain.
I kind of wish I had left mine bone stock except for a S/C.

Thanks for the comments. I'm thinking off adding some headers after my bamachips tune and CAI to go along with my duals, so that's why I was wondering what you thought of these mods. Nice to know they actually do make a noticeable difference. I have a manual, do you think I could break 210 rwhp with these mods?

One thing to remember... the header and mufflers got tested TOGETHER... I believe most of the gain came from the muffler... They really needed to test the muffler and then add the headers...

Or vise-versa. I don't care much for JBA. Their stuff is way overpriced and then they get magazines skew the facts that way.

Ok, so here is my point, what is the cost of the following mods, and whats the typical hp/tq gains to be expected?
Headers, exhaust, intake, tuner
Compare that to just slapping on a S/C and leaving everything else as is. What is the hp gain per dollar going both routes?
Thinking back, I kind of wish I would have just added the GT muffler because thats a pretty stealthy mod, and slapped a S/C on. heck, Ive almost spent enough to pay for a S/C and my only performance mods are a true dual exhaust and the 17inch GT takeoffs.
It would be worth some laughs to be at a stoplight with a bone stock V6 Stang, and smoke almost anything that pulls up next to you. At least around here, there are a few GTs and LS1s, and a couple Vettes, but thats about it.

Of course, this is an excellent point. Most of those mods... headers, exhaust and tuner... will get even more benefit out of a supercharger. Of course, most superchargers come with their own intake. And, some peeps just want to remain n/a. Supercharging is definetly the best hp/$ out there.

If the superchargers had been out when we first got our cars, I think a few more of us would have gone straight to them. The only thing out back when I got my car was Zex so that's what I got. All of the rest of my mods have been in preparation for more power.

Depends... what do you think is a fair price for a complete Supercharger installed... $4000???? Ok... say I splurge and spend $1000 on the Zex... So lets say there is $3000 difference.... That's 120 bottles... Lets say I go through a bottle a month... (which I don't)... that's 12 a year... that's means I can buy 10 YEARS worth of N20 to equal the price of the S/C...
But also... I'm like the poster formally know as Jimp... I wanted more power and I wanted it NOW!!! Looking back I have no regrets going with the Zex... it works great!! And since it was cheaper I've been able to do other things to my car...

Best bang for the buck will always be nitrous, you can argue about the benefits of other forced inductions , but for the price..it just can't be beat. I spent a fortune getting to 11.7 on the 00 and then comes my buddy does a 150 shot on his 01 and stomps all over my 11.7 with an 11.4 , using a fourth of the money i had.
