V6 has horrible understeer!

I was at my club's High Performance Driving clinic this weekend and found out my V6 Pony Package Mustang understeers like a pig. I had the tire pressure set to factory specs, for the day, to see how the stock set-up will perform. Well, it performed great in most areas but when it came to turns it was horrible. It just pushed around corners because of the single track rearend. I couldn't break the rearend loose by over-reving cos the stupid slave wheel just sat there and scooted across the pavement. The drive wheel was spinning nicely though. I had the TCS turned off and we had a water truck there to wet the pavement and it still didn't help.

So I figure my options are to get a T-lok, maybe a slightly larger diameter rear swaybar and/or experiment with tire pressure to get neutral handling or more biased to slight oversteer.

Anyone else run into the understeer problem on the V6?

At least I know that the stock set-up on the V6 Mustang is great for my non-hotrod customers who want a safe vehicle. It's really hard to get the V6 into a situation where it isn't controlable. And, I tried all day. I only got it to spin once and that was cos I was on wet VHT.

I havent done alot to my stang yet,but firmer springs really helped alot in how it handles..

It's hard to get a pony package v6 into trouble. It IS not hard to get a standard V6 into trouble.

The pony package extra's make a HUGE difference in the handeling of the V6. I had a base model 05 and that car was easy to get to slide around the corners the back end of that car would slip out quite easily.

I forgot the regular V6 doesn't have the better suspension set-up like the PP does. The GT swaybars in the PP would keep it planted better. Where as, the regular V6 only having the tiny front swaybar would have tons more body roll and weight transfer, thus creating a greater occurance of traction loss. Thanks for pointing that out.

Still need to figure out a good way to dial out some of the factory oversteer in the Pony Package.

BTW, great color combo on your Pony!

I definatly think you would want to look into stiffer springs, bigger sways and probably some better (adjustable) control arms.

The stangs are not really factory road race cars and it's definatly gonna cost..

What color are your stripes?

The non-Pony Package V6's don't have a rear sway bar. Just the addition of a rear sway bar alone would really help reduce a lot of understeer.....

To reduce understeer, you need to decrease the anti-sway bar force in the front, or increase the anti-sway bar force in the rear. I find that my Eibach anti-sway bars and springs, coupled with my Truetrac, provide perfectly neutral handling. My forward anti-sway bar is on the softest of the stiffness settings (that is, the rear-most holes).

your best bet is to buy the gt take off front and rear bars that are offerd by diversified marketing. I got the complete pair for 89$ plus shipping. You have to buy the bolts for the rear swaybar(if you don't have a rear sway bar) from ford to make it easy. You can install them in an hour 1/2 without jacking up the car. Makes a HUGE difference.

Traction-lok rear end will definitly help, I love the improvement on accelerating out of a corner. With the X cal ll and an automatic its a riot.

He has the Pony Package, doesn't he already have the GT front and rear bars?

I haven't done to much craziness in mine but I have had no problems, hell you guys must be some good hard drivers.

doesn't the pony package have the gt rear and the v6 front? The gt front it much larger than the V6. I don't know, so it might be worth checking

The pony pkg gets GT front and rear bars.

Ok can anyone tell me if the 2007 V6 pony package includes the sway bars? i haven't been able to get a definitive answer anywhere yet .. TIA!
