Thats what I was just going to say Holdercal, what extra gear?
I think he is referring to the 5th gear the new automatic tranny has versus the 4 they used to have.

Excess of 90? You're under arrest!

Man, that's pretty fast! Not bad mileage you're getting considering!

with heavy freeway traffic and speeds of varying 20 mph to 80 mph and a daily commute that is just shy of 60 miles rounds trip I am averaging right at 20mpg.

5 speed manual

And my car regularly see speeds in excess of 90 mph.

How fast you're going might not matter as much as how fast you get to that speed. I get pretty crappy milage now too. I just broke 1100 miles on my Stang and so far have been getting just over 18 mpg, and most of that is highway driving. Problem is that when I do hit red lights around town, I'm consistantly hammering down when the light turns green. And I ride my RPMs around 3000 - 3500. I know 18 MPG seems like average, but I had expected to get well into the 20s, considering I drive about 2 to the highway, and then 20 mi. to work every day ON the highway.

Hmm.....

Seems like the mileage is varying quite a bit on the V6. A lot more then I thought it would?

I was expecting to get in the 20's at least too, but maybe I still will since my engine is still brand new?

I thought with half city/highway driving that I would get around 22-23 combined? Not the 17.75 that I have been getting? :notnice:

Well, I dont have the computer to tell me my gas mileage, but I get between 20-23mpg. Usually I fill up about 14 gallons or so, and go about 280-300. So i usually get about 20. My last tank 100 miles was highway, and i went 315 miles for 14.2 gallons, so I got 22mpg. I dont know how yall are getting 28 or so, im not near that.

Yeah that's exactly what I meant. Sorry I wasn't clear.

And about the MPG being higher for the Auto... I don't know if my dislexia was acting up or if I was on a site with bad info, but now all I can find is 25 for Auto and 28 for Manual.

Sorry about that.

a 4.0 L V6 is a huge V6 and will eat gas like a V8, think about it the motor sizes between the V6 and V8 are only 0.6 L different, the extra 2 cylinders will help alot with power but the overall size of the motor will eat up gas. Thats why the EPA on the V6 and V8 are almost the same

Yeah, I kind of drive it like it's a V8 too!

My Mazda B4000 Truck had the very same engine in it and it never got very good mileage, the very best was 20 on the Highway, but most of the time it was maybe 15 combined city/highway driving.

But, the Mustang is about 500 pounds lighter then that Truck was, and I was hopeing for better mileage! Errr!

My auto gets 21 in combined driving and 27 on the highway. The auto and manual EPA numbers are the same for city (19 I think) but the manual is higher on the highway (25 for auto and 28 for manual as mentioned earlier). I find the auto to work well in combined driving, but dissappointing on the highway, could be due to the aerodynamics, but I'm suspect such a big V6 probably has at least as much to do with it. I've seen several posts for the manual over 30 on the highway.

I'm up to 3500 miles and have noticed a slight MPG increase at about 2500 miles or so, but only about .5 MPG. I drive the same route pretty much every day, so I'm fairly confident it's a valid comparison. I wouldn't expect more than 1 MPG improvement though. This car definitely coasts a long way, if you get used to letting off the gas earlier, it will help some too.

I am guessing that once the cologne designed & built 4.0 liter is replaced with the duratec 3.5 liter there will be a 25% better highway MPG. I have been waiting for the new engine....

I think some of you are enjoying your car too much. I just got my car thursday. I've driven about 340 miles and still have an eight of a tank left. Although mine a manual and have been shifting around 2000 rpms. (Only when I haven't been flooring it!)

I've only had my new V6 coupe for about three weeks now and I'm only on my third tank of gas. But when I filled my car up this morning I was only getting 17.75 MPG figured manually, message center computer said 18.2. But, either way it's pretty low!

I read in the owners manual that you can't really count on the gas mileage figure untill you get 3000-4000 miles on the car, but isn't that mileage figure kind of low? I only have about 450 miles right now, and I do half city, half freeway driving.

What mileage figures are you guys getting on your V6's?
I have an automatic with 1100 miles on it. I get about 20 to 21 mpg in mixed driving, top up and down. Definitely lower mileage with the top down.

I have about 3,500 miles on mine and for the first 1,000 miles I got 20 - 21 mpg. I added the GT muffler and since then I've been averaging 22 - 23 mpg. I do very little highway driving.

I've had my car for 9 days, and have averaged 13-16 mpg so far. It's mostly because of somewhat hard launches, and driving on moderate to real heavy traffic daily. the 0 mpg that avereages in from all the stoppping I do really hurts my mpg. It'll improve when I start classes in UTI on July, I'll be commuting on the fwy daily.
right now school is like 4 miles away but it takes about 15 min to get there, so yeah

I cant seem to get more then 274 miles per tank on my 6. And when I fill it up when the needle is below E and the light is on it only takes 13.85 gallons

thats 19.783393 mpg

usual milegage is 260 - 268 per tank

Typical mpg then is 18.91 combined driving...

Yeah, that's very close to what I've been getting. Maybe it will get better when the engine gets broken in?
