Top Speed

Anybody know what the top speed is on the new V6 with the speed limiter removed? I know there is a drive shaft issue. I wanted to know if it was that big of a difference before I paid the big bucks for a new drive shaft.

OK guys, I really do have a 2006 V6 as well as a GT. I can't believe no one knows how fast the V6 will go with the speed limiter removed.

If that is the case, I would say the investment on a new driveshaft and tuner would be well worth the money. I just didn't want to spend the money if it was going to top out at like 5 mph over where the speed limiter is (115)

A stock V6 can hit 140MPH in 4th gear no problem.. With boost, you can get there alot faster..

If you get caught, you'll do 1-2 years in prison..

Leave the speed limiter on..

Yeah, but leaving the speed limiter on at the track really, really sucks when you are blasting down the straights.

Don't forget a tire upgrade .... I beleive the low speed limiter setting on the V6s is due to the speed rating on the stock V6 tires...

top speed

I think some people are wishful thinking a stock V6 doing 140
What were you smoking?

My 06 automatic would hit 120 stock and an X CAL 87 tune brought that up to 125. I haven`t tried a higher tune yet but recall 130 plus with CAI and a high octane tune on these forums.
Your car will have the retainer clips on the driveshaft U joints.

He`s got the pony pkg pirelli`s.
I know the Canadian car that I have had no limitier set, but don`t know if its because its a pony pkg and or both a Canada car.

The stock driveshaft is prone to exploding at 110+. I've seen video proof of it happening, so don't try to set any speed records with the stock DS.

Its because of the U joint not having a retainer clip to hold the cap on on the 05 and some 06 model V6s. My late model 06 has em and I`m sure there after.

LOL!! Did your friend keep his or her drivers license? @ 185MPH there is no way the officer wrote them a ticket for that..

What happened?

Last time I was cited for exceeding 100 mph on a public road was back when the speed limit was still 55 mph. I was issued a reckless driving ticket, went to court to mitigate it, and ended up paying just a $70 fine along with having the ticket reduced to negligent driving instead of reckless. Kept my license and my freedom.

The v6 speedo only registers to 120...so to accuractley measure it you would need an oval and stopwatch...but there is a rumor... That can not be confirmed...that someone just like me went to bury the peg on an exact s197 4.0 (aluminum DS and BAMA race tune, suspension mods) and at 120 the car supposedly started to run into some airflow issues and body part flapping noises, but there was lots more in it according to the rumor...so I would assume with enough room or on the track, the 135 is doable...

135mph is very doable for our V6. I hit the speed limiter all of the time when I go to the track. There is sooo much more performance available from the stock engine it's not even funny. I really don't think you even need any engine or gearing mods to reach 130mph. Not sure why you would get body panels flapping at 135mph. At 115mph the V6 Stang gets pretty smooth and quite on the stock setup, no hood chatter or weird under carrage noises.

top end

In a couple months I`m on the road for a vacation, I`m specifically going to load up a tank of 92 octane and give her a run on the Brenspeed premium tune on some isolated stretch of interstate somewhere between here and KCMO. A calculation with the tach reading will give me a speed.
I`ll post it then

Guys, PLEASE don't try to set speed records on the stock DS. That is asking for trouble.

Very good point. But, the drive shaft on the 07 to 08 V6's have been updated with retainer clips to prevent them from grenading like the 05's and 06's can.

If you are going to take your Mustang racing make sure you have the newer style of drive shaft with the drift pin clips or an after market DS.
