Thanks Kevin. My friend and I sit and talk about this stuff all the time. We haven't had as much time to chit chat about it anymore ever since I changed jobs. I thought it would be cool to share my thoughts with some other folks and see what they think.

I find the world of automotive to be one that I never tire of exploring. There's no other bunch of folks I'd rather talk with other than you guys, either. You're all the best bunch of fanatics on the web. I'll never bother with other forums. I think you guys keep me filled in on the details that I need to know from other forums.

My first car was a candy apple red '68 coupe that I restored to a great degree... didn't have no steenkin' fog lights. The V6 makes me feel like I'm drivin' that old ride, except it doesn't break down every other weekend. Insurance and gas prices were also an issue. And, I can't think of many moments were I really need to go 0-60 in 5.2 seconds... though, I must admit, it's been fun putting the occassional engine revving kid in a flashed out civic or family car in his place. 210 hp makes for a great performing car and is plenty peppy for me (even more so after a couple more mods and then I'll be done... I swear!)

I'm 32 now and I've only owned 3 cars in my life... 2 have been Mustangs. Gosh... no one ever drooled over the Escort or nearly swerved off the side of the road just to get a sideways glance. This is a bit of American history... automotive artwork on wheels. I haven't been excited to drive anything on the road since the 64 1/2 - 68 models. Then, the 05 came out and I just had to have one.

But, the real reason I bought the V6... this beautiful redfire, which just took my breath away when I saw it... My mother passed away in October after a 4 month battle with cancer and my father in December, days after Christmas, from COPD related illness. I guided both of them through their transition. After my mom died, my dad and I were talking. He was feeling really lost and suggested we go out and buy a '65 convertible and go on a road trip. I had clients that afternoon and we never bought one. He went into the hospital a week or two later (we brought him home on Christmas eve... it was the finest Christmas present ever).

Exactly one month after his death, on January 28th, I brought home the Mustang. They left enough money that I could buy it outright. And, now, they're ridin' with me in spirit. Mom, Dad...Thanks for this life.... even through struggle, it's been filled with nothing but blessings.

Thanks to all in the forum for indulging me... no tears here... smilin' ear to ear...

Great story. Sad, but the ending is inspiring. Sounds like a good enough reason to me. Enjoy your ride because I'm sure your folks are looking down and smiling.

Hey Vintage... want to chime in with your story? I know you don't have yours yet, but it'll be soon enough. What do ya say? Tell 'em how it all began and what lead you to this point...

(We're really good friends - I'm egging him on!)

Man, you are all LOSERS! The V6 is not a real Mustang. A REAL Mustang must have a V8!

Just kidding! I got my V6 because for $20k, it's one sharp car. The GT is great, but would have definitely caused me problems with my 'financial advisor'.

I love my V6. I don't need anymore power for my daily driver...I don't street race....well...not much anyway.... and it was way cheaper than the GT !! And continues to be especially with gas prices soaring !!!! I like the rear running pony emblem way better than the GT emblem...But in all honesty I really don't need a GT. The V6 was a perfect fit for me.

Ok Stanger X where do I begin? (This is a long story please forgive I'm not a writer)

For the Good Times and The sad times.

Let see about 5 years ago I purchased a 1966 Mustang Vinatge Burgandy V8 with Parchment pony interior. It was the coolest car ever in my opinion. It was a car that had been pieced together for years. After doing a couple of things to her I had the guts to go to a car show. Keep in mind that this car was no where even close to ready to take to any show. It had torn seats, rust bubbles on the quarters and an oil leak. Anyway I went to a local show. That's where I met my best friend.

At the show was all kinds of cars new old you name it. There only two other Mustangs in the show was a Teal Staight 6 1996 Coupe (at the time) and a Black Cherry red 1966 Coupe. When I pulled in to my spot I got out and intruduced myself. I met the first guy who can't remeber his name and Stanger X. The guy with the red mustang was all about talking about how awsome is car was except he never did any work on it him self. Stanger on the other hand just wanted to talk to me becasue my car looked orginal. I was intrested in his ride because I used to have a straight 6 66 too that look just like it. We began to talk and after the show was over we exchange numbers.

Where I work there are times it gets slow. So I would call stanger everday to talk about Mustangs. After a while we became friends and we both started to help each other fix our Musatngs. Which in my case my Musatng started to fall apart. In his case we decided to take out the 6 and replace it with a BAD TO THE BONE 302 motor.

A job position opened up in the office I was in and I offered him a job. He took it and now we could have our many many car discussions all the time. It's funny we changed our minds about what we were going to do to our cars alomst weekly It went from we are doing restomods to only looking stock cars over and over. Over the cource of his position there we visited this site everday looking to get glemse of the new 2005 Mustang coming out. We had never been so excited about a new car before.

Stanger who has family in Cleveland was able to go to the Cleveland auto show were the 2005 Mustang factory fit was there. You know the silver one with the white stripes. Stanger X came back with a glow almost like he had seen the gates of heavan or something. He just kept saying I want that car a GT. At this stage in the game I was still more of a Old Mustang guy and even our own local Mustang club had a slipt over new Musatng owners (2004) Vs. Old Mustangs owners (classic). Really stupid if you ask me.

In October the Mustang was now starting to hit dealerships and a few on the road. Stanger wanted to buy one bad but he had just got married and couldn't afford a GT. At this point in out mind sets we didn't want anything less then a GT. Being both Old V8 Mustang owners we wanted the SOUND the POWER. Yet they were going like 3 large over MSRP around here and an't no way he could make the payment. Hiss lovly wife started to wisper things like a Musatng for Christmas/Birthday for Stanger. This was a very exciting time. But they can't get the GT. They went to a Ford Dealership one night and saw a 2005 Mustang (White) with red interior. As told by my friend It was love at first site. He bought it and brought it home.

After finally getting to touch one up close I got really jealous the car was awsome and it was not a GT. I can't beleve Ford brought the Mustang back from the dead in my opinon. It was fun to drive looked good and had enough power to move the mail.

After a long road with my 66 Mustang it had come to the point were it was fully restored. I finally made it I can show the car now the way I wanted too. Such as life near the end of the resteration I hit some hard times and was forced to sell my baby to pay off bills and put my self in a better financial standing. All the time energy and effort gone. All I had to drive around in for the time being was a 98 Toyota Tacoma truck. Having to park next to my bud's new Mustang everyday at work. I was heart broken.

After selling my classic Mustang I was able to make my self completly debt free. At this point I'm now almost ready to buy a new Mustang. So Stanger and I began to raise the GT vs V6 debate all over again. I wanted a GT and looking at what I make I was now in the same boat as Stanger. Can't afford one but I can afford a V6. After delibrating over the issue a couple of days I have come to the conclusion that a V6 will be good enough for me at least I can get to have one. It's still the car I have been dreaming about just a little more tame. I'll have just have as much fun in this car as a GT. I feel the Mustang spirt live on in the 5th generation Stang V6 or GT and even not the same as my old one it will give me the same kind of joy. My dream is to get another old Mustang (one day) and park next to the one I'm about to purchase. Like the ad says THE LEGAND LIVES ON!

Well Stanger was that the story you wanted? LOL Hope I didn't bore anyone and I'm sure I broke some grammer rules but I'm a mechanic not a english major.

Woot! And the funny part is... while that story is like a novella in length... it's really only the highlights! You left out all of the pain and suffering we've both put into our old cars (it's really not for the weak of heart). You left out the countless back and fourth discussions about New vs Old. You left out so much to conserve space, and I gotta say... a BOOK wouldn't do justice to the road we've travelled.

It's been a long and winding road wracked with pain, suffering, blood, sweat, and tears. You're about to grab your new ride, and I must say... you'll ride off into the sunset NEVER looking back. You'll have an old one again some day, but I gotta tell you... this car will satisfy your every need in the meanwhile.

Oh, and don't forget the IOU's that I plan to cash in on. I didn't sell my vintage, so I'll be callin' in those favors! You can't run from the classic stang! MWUA HA HA!!!!

I have the happy end for my story.

I got my new stang this weekend here is a pic of her. She is a Windevel blue, grey interior with the only option I was looking for the IUP package. She is a 5 speed and I never imagend having some much fun with a V6 car. Yes I'll miss the rumble of a V8 but this is the nicest car I think I have ever had the prevledge to own.
