Im going to buy a limited slip and I need to know if I should just get the truetrac over the tlok. Now in the future I plan on having a procharger set up like flapjack's or meybe the powerhouse turbo. Plan on running about 300hp to 320tq at the wheels for a daily driver. Now I have a manual so what would hold up better in the long run. I know screamin is running outragous TQ #'s on his tlok but his car is also an automatic. What do you all think. I kinda like how the detriot truetrac doesn't use a clutche (correct?) Is the truetrac noisy? Were can I get a good deal on one?

Hopefully as the data is restored to this site the search function should also restore. This has been discussed @ length on this forum. drivetrainspecialists.com provide the best deal all around on the truetrac.
The truetrac itself is not too noisy as long as a decent synthetic oil (such as motorcraft 75W140 avail @ any ford parts emporium) WITHOUT friction modifier is used. No friction modifier is needed due to the unit being all gears w/o clutchplates.

Since you are going for serious axle-snapping power, your gut instinct is correct. Truetrac over FRPP TLOK anyday of the week. Truetracs do occasionally create what some have called 'truetrac shuffle' when coming to a stop @ low speeds. Its possible to hear the diff gears shift from at-rest --> drive or drive --> at rest @ very low speeds on occasion. Its not annoying @ all & IMHO something only gearheads like us would notice. Others have only said it becomes loud if a friction modifier is added to the gear oil by mistake.

Truetracs have been somewhat finicky to shim correctly. My install team and I are still fighting some gear whine w/ mine. Be sure to double check backlash & pinion depth/shims, etc. We are opening axle again this Monday after approx 1K miles of 'break-in' to double check torque settings, backlash, etc. This should alleviate any whine.

As far as the 2nd part of your question regarding the manual vs. auto, it does appear that Ford uses the same auto transmission throughout the entire lineup. -- V6 --> V8 all get same auto for $995.

Manual trannies are a different story. The Tremec 3650 used on the GT is a torque monster. Unfortunately, the T5 manual on the V6 is not as much of a torque monster, but it weighs a heck of a lot less and is partly responsible for the 150lb weight savings of the V6 over GT. AFAIKT the T5 used in the V6 mustangs is torque rated to 300 ft/lbs @ the crank. If you are that concerned w/ getting max clutch life, that means going w/ a non-intercooled turbo / non-charged cooled supercharger to keep ft/lbs under 300 ft/lbs. Not as much fun, but the wallet will stay closed longer instead of opening up more often to buy clutch plates.

The good news is the T5 is basically a bolts-bucket so changing out clutches should not be too much of a hassle. It just depends on how, er, 'aggressive' you want to be w/ it.

Well. for all the doom and gloom we all talked about with the Trac-Lok, mine certainly holding up EXTREMELY well... I've made about a dozen hard launches at the track with my DR and probably another dozen on the street... On Satruday I cut a 1.83 60'... actually my motor broke before my track-loc!

As far as the automatic... while the V6 and the V8 share the same model, they are not identical... the V8 version is a little more beefed up I think... and again... I've been PUNISHING my automatic... LOL!

I installed the TrueTrac myself. I have no noise (other than a barely audible 'click' as it engages around turns). I also did not have problems shimming. I just used the shims from the old setup, and it fit perfectly (the second time, after realizing I didn't press the bearing all the way on).

Check out my writeup (with lots of pictures) here:

I just installed my Auburn Pro and Motive performance 3.73's this Friday.
I was going to go with the TT, but got a great deal from a buddy on these parts that I couldn't refuse (400 bucks for both).
So far I have no noise with these, I too reused the factory hardware.

In your situation I would go TT.

Quick update: The install team (with the aide of a 12 ton press donated to Xi-Chi Chapter from myself Well worth the $110 bux IMHO. ) rebuilt the rear axle again. They re-shimmed and also replaced the pinion bearings. This took a few hours but was easily done because of the 12 ton press. We also took the opportunity to re-adjust the Steeda adjustable panhard (shortened it a 1/4 inch) and recheck driveline angle.

results: Exellent. With the 1/4 inch shorter panhard the axle is centered better. Driveline angle is 2.1 degrees. Steeda recommends 2.8 degrees but I'm not going to be too concerned about .7 degrees / .7 MOA (Minute Of Angle) . The car's axle whine is 99% obliterated. At 80+ MPH the 'massage chair' vibration that comes thorugh the rear axle from having an improperly adjusted panhard (and as such improperly centered rear axle) is now 99% obliterated as well.
