I was told by more than one salesman that traction conrol included traction-lok when part of pony pkg on V-6. WRONG I`m PO ed big time. If I install traction lok and change gears what has to be done for speedo and odometer settings?

a salesman lied?! Egads! darn buggers they can be...

If you change gears you'll need your speedo recalibrated. If that's the only mod you, I believe the dealer can reflash for you. If you're planning on further mods, get an SCT X-cal 2 from a reputable tuner like Doug of Bamachips (my personal recommendation), Lideo of Alternative Auto or Brenspeed. The X-cal will really wake up your ride and make it drive like it should have from the factory.

I thought my Pony Pakcage came with LSD as well. While my salesman didn't lie, I fooled myself. I had my computer reflashed for the new gears.

Look at the bright side. You didn't waste money on a Limited Slip differential that will begin to wear-out after just 30K miles. Go out and get a TrueTrac; that is the real deal.

He may not have been lying, maybe he just didn't know. I've found that most salesmen are idiots. They don't know crap about cars and generally waste my time.

tlok and auburn both use friction clutches, which wear out over time and have to be rebuilt (if you cant do it yourself, this will cost you darn near a grand to pull it, rebuild it, cost of the kit, and putting it back in).

The truetrac uses gears which will probably last longer than your car.

I had 60K miles on the track-lock in my GT with no problems... And I've been abusing my track-lock in my V6 since August... and I do mean ABUSE... no problems... When you do eventually wear out your clutches you have it rebuilt... at a fairly reasonable cost.. Not a big deal in my mind...

Probably a stupid question but how do you tell when they wear out?

As far as salesmen go on't attribute to malice what can be explained by simple stupidity....

I have yet to meet a car salesman that knew the packages and options for a given car as well as I did after doing a little simple research. I always assume anything they say is wrong unless I can independently confirm the info...

Dittoes. You know more about your car than they do. The most successful car salespeople are usually those that can simply point at a car and say 'look, its BLUE!!!' and they make their sales quotas month-over-month. Individuals like us who can post intelligently into V6 tech forums like this would, I hate to say this, make LOUSY car salespeople and we'd be looking for a new job after a month. Welcome to the club and enjoy your new ride!!! This includes ME so no flames plse.

BTW: A service advisor at my local dealership once asked my how I like the handling of my car since Ford updated it for 2005 with a new INDEPENDANT REAR SUSPENSION!!!

I politely informed him the car rides just fine on the SRA w/ panhard. His response: and he walked away.

The rebuilt kit for the trac loc is 75-90 bucks and my mechanic charges 150 to change em out . I use a trac loc on my GT, with slicks, doing 1.58's 60ft, havent had a problem in 2 years. With the power a stock/lighly modified six is making a trac loc should last way more than 30,000, under normal use.

I'd bet I could hit you with over 500 questions in a row you couldn't answer about the current Ford line

The term for someone who studies only the car they want and knows exactly what they studied only on that one car and think everyone else is an idiot is called a squirrel.

Yup, even the most modded of V6's aren't really powerfull enough to do any serious damage to one. How many V6's are even near 400hp yet?

And if one chooses, stays with, and buys from a salesperson they don't like, whos the stupid one?
