i am going to get the JBA Cat4Ward shorty headers but wanted to know what is the actual difference between the stainless steel and ceramic finishes?..besides the price anyway i tried searching and cannot find a answer.

ceramic keeps the heat in the header better.... lower underhood temps.

both hold up very well i hear.

stainless looks better.

The type of stainless used by JBA discolors pretty quickly (turns brown and will eventually form surface corrosion) This is the nature of the material and not a defect (the light coat of corrosion actually protects the piping).

JBA uses 409 stainless to construct their headers, here is an excerpt from a materials property sheet on 409:

Corrosion Resistance: Grade 409 resists atmospheric and exhaust gas corrosion. A light surface rust will form in most atmospheres; this rust retards further corrosion but makes the surface undesirable for decorative applications. The corrosion resistance is about the same as that of 3CR12 and the 12% chromium martensitic grades such as 410, and inferior to the 17% chromium grade 430.

For long term appearence, go with the ceramic, which has the added benefit of insulating the headers and keeping underhood temps in check and flow rates up.

i was just chaecking to see if the extra 100 or so bucks to go with ceramic was worth it..which apparently it is... like they say .. if your going to do it..do it right

What about the MAC Shorty Headers for the V6? (They are ceramic I think)

I have the JBA stainless and my are not turning rusty, been on for about 1 1/2 yrs, the ceramic overall do look better then stainless, I have JBA through Pypes X pipe into Magnaflow muffs, love the sound.

A fair number of people have reported various fitment issues with the MACs. I'd stick with the JBAs.
