This is my first manual transmission vehicle, so i am curious to know what the proper shifting technique is.
When going fast, what is the proper RPM or MPH that i should shift from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc. And if i want just smooth city or highway driving without jolting the car, what is the correct RPM or MPH for that? Thanks.

You will learn when the car wants you to shift. Just take it easy and she will let you know...

Just remember when you are goosing her, she dosen't like going into 3rd, so be careful of your redline...

I generally shift between 2500-3000, usually aiming for 3000. If I'm driving more agressively, I run her up to 3500...then you can start to hear the exhaust get a bit more Beefy.

You can also shift between 2000-2500. You'll end up shifting more, and I doubt you'd see any improvement on mileage. And, you don't get to hear the exhaust speak up!

You'll also learn to shift by feel instead of watching the tach all the time as you get used to the car. I learned to drive without a tach, and most of my cars didn't have a tach, so I don't pay alot of attention to the tach now. Other than the fact that the Mustang's gauges are so nice to look at!
