I was just wondering if any has replaced their stock tires with some 235/60/16's? My question is would this be only useful for hooking up and g-loading or would it have a noticable advantage in handling as well?

I am currently budget limited to the stock wheels, but the tires are so god aweful in the wet (I live in Louisiana and wet is a way of life) that it is a major issue . Also, the tires that I am looking at are oddly enough the BF Goodrich Traction T/A V-rated. From what I understand, these are dramatically better tires than our current spec versions.

Off topic: but I can't wait 'till I get my T-Lok and sway bars !! By the way, I love this forum, y'all have taught me so much I can't thank you enough. Appreciate all the imput I get... Thanks .

A lot of us have got the GT take-off wheels and tires, only about $500 on Ebay. Then you can sell your stock wheels and tires. I got $350 for mine. If you do get the wheels and tires from Ebay, check with Cascotech.

He'd be better off buying good tires. The P-zero nero's on the stock GT's are crap.

The pzero's are 2x better then the stock v6 tires. I got mine on ebay for $483 including shipping. I know most of them out there are $500+shipping (120-180) and even that is a good deal. Im not sure but the gt (bullitt) rims also felt lighter then the v6 ones.

Another problem I have with going to the GT wheels right now questions about my future... I am currently living in Baton Rouge, a decent little city with well paved streets, but I may so be moving back to New Orleans (aka the home of the 5 foot pothole). I am worried that if I reduce the profile too much that I may wind up having to replace a rim or two in the near future.

Side Note: I actually saw a honda accord (not lowered) having to be towed out of a standard (for New Orleans) pot hole last year.

This is EXACTLY what I did. I purchased from tirerack.com the Bridgestone Potenza RE750's. I live in Atlanta and as in your neck of the woods would never expect to see snow. These tires are FANTASTIC. They improve the handling of the car 100%. I agree the stock tires are garbage. If you want to save a few dollars, get the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval tires. These are now made by Bridgestone and the Wide Ovals are the same tire as the RE750's except branded as 'firestone'. Also, the Firestone Firehawks have more of a nostalgic/heritage blackwall that harks back to the day of the firehawk tires prominence. IMHO the firestone blackwall goes well w/ the heritage/nostalgic restyle of the current Mustang. I purchased 235/16/60 and they fit w/ no probs on the stock 16 inch factory wheels. Plus the more aggressive tread pattern looks awsome on the car. These will make your car handle 100% better. BTW: I did add a rear sway bar to my car, but I did it AFTER I put the tires on. IMHO if money only allows either/or and not both @ this time, the best bang for your buck would be the TIRES. Get the sway bar later. You will do better with the new tires than buying a sway bar and keeping the stock tries. Hope this helps!!

If you're going to bother getting new tires, you might want to get something a little wider than 235s

That's the setup I'm getting
Are you getting an LSD later on, it'd be nice to see what you can do with ~20"'s of tire traction

you can, but it isn't recommended on an 8" rim.

Im sure if you went to a tire store they would tell you a 255 is the widest you could go, although im sure a 265 is just fine.

i have 255/50/17 on bullitt rims...they are great...i recommend the hankook st's....they have a lot of tread!!! cuz they're SUV tires.. plus the wear is very minimal....

i would like to try 265s on my stock 8in wide rims....
