Onboard computer accuracy?

Back when I was driving my 06 vert I found that by keeping my "hoofie" out of the carburator, my car's computer said I was getting about 29.2 +/_ mpg. Admittedly I drive on relivitively "flat" ground from home to work and back. However, I've always wonderd about the accuracy of this even given that it's a V6. Anybody out there had similar mpg readings?

Regards,
Chuck

Ok... I just have to say it... You have a carb and your getting that gas milage?

That is about what mine is at also with fuel injection. It started getting that milage after it hit 5k.. before it averaged around 25.

I have a GT but I've found the computer is actually pretty accurate for fuel economy as long as you let it average at least a half tank of gas and don't reset it. I've checked it against manual calculations with how much gas is pumped vs. miles driven a few times and it is right on, usually within 1mpg. That could be attributed to differences in how full I get the tank.

I can only get that kinda mpg coasting down a long hill and hitting reset on the mpg.

I find the computer to be very acurate as long as you give it time to average correctly. It will be way off if you reset it everytime you drive, let it go a week or so.

If I'm on the freeway at 60-70 mph I can get that kind of MPG. Kick it up to 80 and it drops to about 26mpg.

Yeah, when I first saw it on computer I thought ain't no way. So I reset it and checked again at the end of the week. I was more disbeliving the second time...now I'm impressed. Not to bad for a daily driver/fun machine in this day and age.
