So i got my TT and 4.10's installed tonight and it is ugly. The guy who did my work told me right away that i wasn't going to like it. He said that motive gears has had quite the reputation for whining gears......said he had'nt used motive gears in 10 years so he thought he would just give it a try.....Nope! every time i push on the gas i get the grossest whine.....Has anyone else experienced this with Motive gears especially the 4.10's?
I guess what i will do is go to Ford and just order the gears straight from them...Any pointers??? I need anything i can get right now!

I have Motive 3.73's... there is definetly a soft whine around 30-35 and again around 65-70. It's not terribly bad. After several hundred miles, it's softened even more, but still noticeable.

I have the Motive 3.73s and I get no whine whatsoever. My installer took my car up to 120MPH on the lift to test the gears, no sound. Guess it depends on how you set it up.

I've got the Motive 4.10s..... no whine... The guy who installed them is regarded as the best in like a 3 county area... if not the state of Michigan... I think a lot of it is going to be how they are setup...

I have the Ford gears installed in my car in 4.10's and they are quite as a mouse. I'm with your installer though, I'd never use anything but Ford or Ford motorsports.

Thanks, Doug.

I had the 4.10 Motive gear whine as well, I hear motives can be installed without gear whine, but it takes a really good installer. I got so frustrated with them I had them taken out for ford gears.

I've seen lots of posts bout whining motive gears, some people dont have whine, most do. I have yet to see a post where someone has whine with a ford gear (at least that was installed correctly).

My gears are quieter than stock even lol

Hmm, thanks for the heads up. I'll probably stick with Ford gears now.

Anyone have a sound clip of the "whine." My imagination can only go so far.

I'm really not into making a sound clip of something bad lol....it is just so gross lol....its not terrible, but after like 30 mph whenever you push on the gas it has a high pitched humm. Almost Reminds me of seeing cherries and berries in my rearview mirror with a lil siren and thats definetely not good haha..it isn't too loud but definetely noticeable when no radio or a/c on....I'm calling Ford today about new gears.

I got them straight from ford, give me 10 minutes and i will look up the part number on my invoice

part # 3L1Z-4209-JH My invoice says list $295.28 net $0.00 lol

I believe they are cheaper on some websites (yes actually ford parts) but you have to pay shipping, and then you wont get them right away. Ford dealer should have them in stock.

Oddly enough, it fixed itself! Might've had something to do with my sister spilling a tiny little bit of soda on it, or maybe the weather. Out of no where, it just stopped acting up.

And like Fazm said, the 3.73's are $217 at fordparts.com

I got my gears and t-lock put in at "Joint, Clutch & Gear Service" in Bay City... would be a bit of a drive for you! LOL! Looks like they have an shop in Warren on 8 mile... (hey I used to live at 8 mile and Gratiot! Back when it was East Detroit! LOL) Anyways... it was $900 for everything... parts, labor, misc....

Just got Motive 3.73's put in. Horrible, horrible, terrible, awful, disgusting whine. I am tremendously unhappy. Trying another brand ASAP. It's giving me a headache any time I take the car over 25MPH. Seemed like a darn good install, too, I was there the whole time. Re-shimmed the darn thing a few times, no joy.

Motive is the OEM for the FRPP 7.5" 3.73 and 4.10 gears. The only gears made by 'FORD' that are sold by FRPP for the 7.5 are the 3.45. I doubt any major differences exist between the gears that motive produces for sale under their own brand or those that Motive produces for sale under the FRPP brand...

Eric.
