An off road x-pipe has no catalytic converters. It is a straight through pipe and will make your cars exhaust sound really loud. I am not sure about the 4.0's but If I had to make an educated guess, I would think that you need a tune from a programmer for that set up. What do you want your car to sound like? If you are shooting for a classic rumble I would get an H-pipe if I were you. I had the Pypes off road X-pipe on my 4.6L for about 2 days and just couldn't stand the sound, it made me feel embarrassed to step on the gas. I took it off in January 2006 and in my garage it sits to this day, but to each his own. Hope I helped.

Offroad pypes of any kind are "technically" illegal, hence the offroad part of the name. You wont pass inspection without the cats, but you could always just switch out the pipes come inspection time. Anyway, I have the pypes x-pipe on my car and it sounds awesome! I know alot of sixer's use the x-pipe for whatever reason so that what I went with.

I used the Magnaflow X-pipe only and I like the sound with my Flowmaster AT's.

I have the FRPP xpipe and GT take off mufflers. I am waiting for a nicer day out to install. I will post info when I get them installed. I really want to get those Bullitt mufflers installed. That would be sweet!

+1 on the H and would agree the X is raspy in an already raspy engine. I wanted an H off-road but will go that route another day. I have the GT H and will weld it to the stock cats followed by the Pypes mid muffler system (when I get it in two weeks or so).

I have magnaflow (I think) x-pipe with GT take offs and the car sounds great! It does not sound raspy or like a tin can at all. It DOES sound different from a GT (or any V8), but its definately not sounding ricy. I only got the cross pipe itself, used the stock Cats, cut the pipes and welded it into the catback system (i purchased all the GT parts for the driver side).

Maybe that is the difference, but I am using the stock Cats, with GT take offs, and a custom X-pipe installation. Costs more if you cant weld (like me), but the sounds is sweet, defiantely not stock, definately not a GT, its original

Hope that helps!

I would shop around for some better prices. An exhaust should't cost that much. Are you getting a tune with the air intake?

Here's my costs

H pipe from GT: $70
Pipes Mid Muffler system: $299
CAI and Tune $599

H Pipe Install: $50

Now this is $US but since the canadian dollar is worth more now I fail to see the extra $900. If I were you I would order the components yourself. Have a shop install the exhaust and you do the CAI and tune.

Thanks guy I keep shopping. One more girl question, Is the H pipe shaped like an H or h, if they are different shapes, does this make the rumble different?

thanks again
