Ignition wires by JBA?

Just out of curiosity, What do ignition wires do? I was looking on JBA's website and they have ignition wires for a V6 that supposedly get an extra 5 hp. How does it do that?

http://www.jbaheaders.com/05mustangnew.asp

scroll down a bit until you see the blue wires and here:

Anyone have them?

they run from the distributor to the spark plugs. i dont know how you get an hp gain though.

Well the point of the matter is...is there a benifit or point to having them? Are they better for the car, increase power, etc

I'm pretty sure the gains are unoticable (less than 1 hp?)

i think they would mainly be used if you put in a new higher power starter which would require a lower gauge wire. i dont see how you could get any hp out of them. all they do is transfer electricity.

From what I hear (no proof sorry) the S197 is really to new to need something like this now. Unless you car is really high milage you don't really need new plugs.
These cars are set up pretty well for this simple mod to really help up to 5HP.

They have less resistance than stock wires and thus send higher voltage to the spark plug producing a more powerful spark at the plug. This ignites the gas better. I have a set of JBA wires, however, the car was never checked after they were installed so I couldn't guess what the power increase was. I do know that when I was modifying my old Ford 390 many years ago, the one item that produced the most immediate and noticable gain was replacing the coil with a more powerful one which produced a stronger spark.
My guess is on a stock car, the wires would barely be noticable, 1 or 2 hp. On modified car (NOS, FI), they would make a bigger difference as you are now putting more fuel in the engine at a faster rate.

A freind of mine was telling me that if I wanted to do this, I may as well get a new distributer and rotor as well? would that make more of a difference?

Essentially the only reason I ask is because I'm just looking for some not super expensive ways to give my baby a little boost. Not go nuts, just alittle more.

I think the JBA wires look pretty cool from a purely visual perspective. Do they improve performance? I'm not holding my breath!!

One thing I do recommend, however, when installing them is to make sure the wires are nice and secure. One of mine slipped out of the loom and rubbed up against that hard line that runs parallel to the engine on the drivers side (I think its a fuel line) and it burned the heck out of the jacket on the plug wire. Since JBA only sells the wires by the set the only way to replace it was to buy another set of wires...

The new cars do not have distributers and rotors. Those went out years ago, it is all electronic now.

I use them, but all I can say is that they eliminate a potential weak link in the power chain

I just ordered a set of these mainly for astetic purposes. I got red ones to put a little color under the hood. However I have an X-Charger so I might see those gains of 5hp...not really looking for it though.

Honestly though, if you're looking to give yourself a little bump in power, doing small stuff like this won't help you much, if at all. You'd be better off saving up from all the little mods you would do and just invest in exhaust, intake, tune, etc. If you're just getting them for looks, you are less likely to be let down.

Well I'm as interested in looks as power, actually even more so in looks. So I may still get them eventually.
