Dual Exhaust Problem!!!

Seems like Im never going to get my Flowmaster AT's on. So I take my car 05 mustang V6 to the shop, which said they were going to custom make my H pipe to put duals on. So they get my car up and ask me where I want my H pipe. Im like what??? He said to tell him where to put the H pipe and he'll put it there. I have no idea. He said an inch off here or there, where the H pipe starts can lose power and performance. Im like you dont know where to start the H pipe. Is this guy blowing smoke up my *** and dont know what he's doing or is he kind of right? If hes right does anyone know where to start the H pipe or know a link for information. Im so frustrated with just trying to put duals on!!! Please Help!! By the way the place is Midas. Also he gave me an option to go without a H pipe or X pipe and just go straight back. Is that a good option or should I definitely use one of the pipes?

Midas is your first mistake. They are fine for the normal family car that needs a standard exhaust. You need a shop that specializes in performance exhaust. If you look in the yellow pages you should be able to find a performance exhaust shop. For instance in Edmonton, Alberta most mustang owners go to ABC Mufflers. Hopefully the attached site on flowmasters will help you.

So is it good to run the pipes straight back without any H pipe or X pipe? If so wouldn't it be easier to just do that, then again everyone would run straight back without any H or X pipe if it was better right? Anyone know the advantages or disdvantages?

I'm not technician but I've read the straight solution (without any x or H) is the best for a V 6 engine: power and true V 6 music.

H or X tubing are only here for V8 sound gimmick???

Im not positive on this but Im pretty sure a crossover pipe of some kind (x, h, or y) is needed for backpressure. Straight pipes affect backpressure in a negative way and are therefore generally not used on our cars.

you are going to want a H pipe. X pipe has a lot of drone straight pipe will have a lot of popping to it. with bad sound. I had an H pipe. and thought an x pipe would sound better... WRONG! go with a H pipe, H it just after the down turn where the pipes lay flat under the car. before the trans mount. Sounds great there. hope this helps

Thanks guys. I think the pipe has something to do with backpressure too and not having one of the those pipes wouldn't be as good.

A MAC Prochamber sounds best on a V6, IMO

B4 I got my GT I owned a 2006 4.0L and put MRT duals going 2 into 1 out to 2 without any crossover and IMHO it sounded deep, loud and mean. Remember, the 4.0L runs 2.5 inch pipes and is an even-fire engine so back pressure is not an issue. As a matter of fact there are a lot of people with single exhaust supercharged running over 300 hp and doing just fine.

So you used a Y pipe right RedFire? Isnt that just a dual rear exit exhaust system and not true duals?
