My first post here, although I've been reading for 2 months.
I have a Sonic Blue V-6 Automatic. (Stock so far)
I just ordered an XCalibrator Flasher with new EEC program & should receive it in a few days. I'll post the results after I get it on.
I emailed Superchips & they replied they would have a microtuner out for the V-6 in mid-March.
I'm just waiting on someone to make an exhaust upgrade (or I may just change the muffler), underdrive pulleys & cold air kit.
I'm thinking about 3.73 or 4.10 gears but I want to know how much they will affect the 1/4 mile time, top speed & 60 MPH cruising RPMs. Any thoughts?
I'll post everything I learn & do.
Anybody ever tried the G-Tech performance analyzers? I'm thinking about ordering one so I can monitor the effect the car changes make.
I owned a 88 GT w/auto & 3.73 gears & I'm sure this V-6 is just as quick in the 1/4.

I had a 99 automatic V6 Firebird with 3:08 gears, I switched to 3:42's and it instantly knocked a solid .4 seconds off my quarter mile time with no other mods.
Speedometer was off by about 10% until I got a computer reflash. Supechips of course can handle this for you.
Gas mileage dropped from an average of 24 mpg to 22. Don't know how much top speed I lost as I never went over 100 in that car. Highway cruising seemed almost unaffected; I'm sure it was a tiny bit higher, but not enough that I noticed. Throttle response was improved not only at launch but at all cruising speeds up to at least 80 mph. (Probably higher, but like I said I never really tried to find out.) All in all, it was the best mod I ever did for that car. The lower gas mileage was about the only downside (well, that and the fact that I added about a thousand extra miles to the odometer before I got the computer reprogrammed.)

You should get similar results going to 3:73's or 4:10's from stock.

I'm sure I'll be changing the gears in a month or two. Not sure which to go with though. (probably the 4.10)
I'm with you about the top speed. I would be under 100MPH about 99% of the time so the change to top speed really shouldn't concern me.
While I'm changing the gears I'll probably put the Ford T-Lok (I think that's what it is called) in. It's around $150 I think, but it should be worth it.

Thank you 05stangkc.
I ordered the Escort GTimer at $100 instead of the $300 GTech. Now I have $200 to spend on my cars performance.
I'm strongly considering a Flowmaster Super 40 Muffler (or original 40 or Delta 40, I'll call their tech line tomorrow). I don't think there will be hardly any more performance gain by installing a dual exhaust setup (as opposed to a good single), so I think I'll keep my stock pipes & just replace the muffler. The pipes are already 2.5" and look like pretty smooth bends to me. Hopefully the Super 40 will give me more rumble & a little more HP.
I'll post all mods here.
Thanks again for the heads up on the timers.

There is a LOT of very good information on TMS nobody can find it all so I am happy to be of service!
