forgive my likely stupid question but could someone please tell me why intake systems like this one and the one by mmr are being called "cold air" intake systems? how does it draw cold air? i don't understand how it could since it has no way to take air directly from a hood scoop or the fender well and isn't boxed in like the one from c&l.
regardless of how it works, if it really will add 15-18 hp and doesn't require a flash(sounds too good to be true) and improves the sound of my v6's growl some I'd have to consider getting one.

I think it's called cold air intake due to the fact that it pulls air from the left side of the inside fender as apposed to the open air cone type filter.....meaning the CAI units are pulling colder air from the fender area instead of the "Hot" engine bay air. My $0.02
PS: I can't wait to see the true dyno #'s.

well that makes sense except that by looking at the pictures it appears to me that it is an open air cone type filter. according to the pics I've seen the MAC one and the MMR both draw hot engine bay air.
what am I missing? do the air cones install inside the fender well on these models?

If you want to know the truth, the reason these things are called "cold air induction" is because the CAIs on other model cars and on the previous generation mustangs were actually placed in the fender well. It is just a name that caught on and stuck really well. So now anything that replaces the stock air box with a cone filter that is less restrictive is called a CAI, regardless of whether or not the air it flowsis any colder.

Most of them also come with aluminum or Stainless Steele box built around them to keep hot engine air away from the cone filter! but jsheehan is correct about the name thing.

I'm just wondering... would installing an higher-flow intake, like the MMR or MAC, be of benefit when coming in for doing warranty work? Both of them don't need a tune (though you'd probably get higher gains from a tune), so if you did need to reflash back to stock for warranty work, your check engine light wouldn't be on. Yes, you'd get more gains with another intake, but while a warranty is in effect on these lovely, brand new cars, this might be the way to go for some. Any thoughts?

I also went with mac intake kit , along with the mac pro chambers, mufflers, sounds awsome, along with the 4:10 gears and the sct tune, and carbon trap removed, this car moves, and sounds unbelievable
