IMO, in terms of axle-backs:

Flowmaster: Loud (obnoxious?) Deep growl, but there's also a raspy "old-man" sound to it too, noticable droning. "Old muscle car sound". Materials are of a lower quality than others, apparently.
Borla: Deep throaty tone, "muscle car" sound, but bad droning especially at high rpms. Supposedly will last forever - or at least to 1 million miles.
Ford Racing = Borla muffler, at half the price, but no 1mil mile warranty
MRT: Loud meaty growl, less raspy and crackly than Flowmasters, significant drone & vibrations. "Sporty+muscle car sound"
Magnaflow: Loud but not obnoxious rumble, mellow, throaty growl, no raspiness, little if any drone. Sounds like a mix of "Euro sports car"+"muscle car." Long-lasting stainless steel construction will probably outlast your car.

I believe all advertise some amount of HP gains, and any of them would be much better than the stock v6 muffler. I went with the Magnaflows myself - I got headaches from the drones of the others.

What's "best" for you?

Had the Flowmasters-moderate loud/minimal drone/$275+/aluminized/SS 4" rolled tips, and have the FRPP/Stingers- louder/substantial drone/$395+/T-304 SS/SS 4" rolled tips. I like them both. It depends on what you like. There is no best axle backs. Do your research... this forum is the perfect place to start .

Drone is best described as overlapping sound waves that vibrate and make your head hurt.

BTW, another great axelback for a cheap price is the Gt takeoff. Low cost, a little better sound, and no drone.

yeah it sounds nice without the muffler. i tried mine like that when i took off the stock to put on the MAC. i prefer the sound of the muffler although there wasnt a huge amount of difference in Db levels. plus you wont get any tickets that way.

Put your fingers in your ears an hum. An annoying sound to some...

Sorry, but I don't have first hand knowledge of the JBA - and the original poster didn't ask about it either

I personally really like the JBAs. They have a powerful sound and, at least for me, I could feel and hear the car and it was as though it was actually able to breath once I replaced the stock one with the JBA

Add me to the JBA list... I really like how it sounds, but there is a bit of a drone when I am on the freeway...

I am hoping to go to duels soon and would love to do duel JBA's, but I am afraid of what that will sound like on the freeway! It's fine when I am alone, it's not annoying, but it makes it hard to talk to passengers, I feel like we have to shout to talk...
