There must be some somewhat demented soul out there thinking of building the V-6 up to the GT horse power range.Does anyone think it can be done at a reasonable price,because Im sure it can be done with alot of money.Has anyone considered it, and what would you do? And do'nt say just buy the Gt that's to simple for the mechanically demented.

I know people have that 4.0 SOHC rangers that have had them at 300 horses. After some nitrous and plenty of mods!

It would cost sooooo much that you should have just bought the GT instead.

It would cost a heck of a lot less to buy a GT and make it look exactly like a V6 (i.e. change out the front bumper and grill, wheels, front fenders, faux gas cap, and put on a fake single exhaust with hidden dual exhaust). But why spend thousands on tring to get a V6 engine up to 310 horses and maybe even blow up your engine in the process?

Wait until vortech puts its supercharger out on the market. Should be out this summer. It would give you more than 300 HP.

Cost around $ 4,000, and yeah I guess that would almost make it as expensive the GT, but you are going to have a lighter car at same HP, I think you'll be doing 0-60 in the high 4s without problem.

You'd be thinking wrong. A v6 with 300hp wouldn't go any faster than a gt as there isn't that much wight difference especially after tacking on the extra 40 pounds for the SC. But toss some grppier wheels and a suspesion mod or two and maybe.
Thats still a big maybe because you have to be a good driver to get the most out of either car. Just ask some of the people who have taken theirs to the track.

Well I think GT weighs around extra 145 pounds on the front end, just by having the bigger engine. Few reviewers found the V6 more responsive when changing lanes due to the lower weight. Yes you are right, it might need a couple more additional mods, and yes a good driver is a factor when it comes to pushing the limit

Manufacturers are just starting to turn towards v6 productions, so its really hard to project what kind of performance gains we will be seeing from simple bolton mods and tunes. I dont see any reason why it wouldnt be possible. CAI+Exhaust+Headers+Port/Polish w/ a good tune and I would bet you'd be close.

And I have every full intention of proving it can be done. Its just my wallet thats fighting against me. The day I spank an 05 GT is the first day Ill consider being done =)

The average V6 runs about $21,000 and the average GT runs about $26,000. Slap a $4,000 supercharger to get 300+ horses and you are still below the average cost of a GT. That is not even taking into account the dealer markups on GT's in most places due to high demand and low supply of GT's. Yes, you can get your V6 Mustang to perform as well or better than a GT for less cost and although it would be easier to blow you engine with that much horsepower it's not IMOHO pushing the V6 to the limit of how many horses it can reasonably handle. I would say that would be about 350 hp before you would have to start worrying about that. Personally 300 horses for a V6 would be plenty for me, heck 250 would be nice. I'm planning on doing all the bolt-ons that are made for the car. It would not be as fast as an 05 GT but that's ok, it still cost less and would be faster than most cars under $30,000.

I admit it would have been easier to get a GT just not as cost efficient. Ok, I admit it. I just simply could not afford a GT but I can afford a V6 and get a few mods later on.

Actually here in Norther Cal. Average price of GT goes aroun $29,000
Thats one of the reasons I got my V6 $10,000 less in price

Don't forget less than 10 years ago the GT only had 215 horses stock, it wasn't till this year that it broke 300, 2004,s stock 260, with a few bolt ons we could smoke an 04 stock without a prob. Besides what fun would it be if we couldn't take the challenge of making our cars better

I totaly agree Its quite the fun doing mods on the car and trying to squize that extra juice out of it :headbang:

Here in Canada, the V6 (no options) is $25,000, the GT (no options) is $34,000...

That's a substantial $9,000 difference. That is why I am looking at the V6. Modifications that I am looking into include some exhaust work, intake, exterior (looks), and wheels and tires. I am thinking of approximately a maximum of $4,000. This would get me the exact look I would like for less. Plus I would do the modifications over a couple years...

Anyway, can the V6 get 300+ horsepower - yes - can it do it for less than the V8 - no.

The GT comes with a few items stock that would be benificial:

beefier tranny, better rear end, 300hp V8

Well heres the question then.. what would you change in the tranny, and rear end? When would it become NECESSARY to start upgrading the bottom end?

There is some guy on Ebay selling a V6 that he says has 300hp.
item number 4545794423

Problem is, he says that it has a reprogrammed computer and some exhaust work.

I wrote to him and politely tried to tell him that this cannot be true. He replied that I obviously don't know what I am talking about. SO by his measures, My 93 4.6L with a supercharger must have more like 1200 hp instead of the 425 I thought it had.
