I want to get new gears on my car but not sure about whether to go with 3.73's or 4.10's...What are the differences in hp and regular driving?

I went with 3.73s just because i do go on road trips often, so thats a lot of highway miles. For an auto i think 4.10s would give you the best bang for your buck. If you ever plan on boosting your car or nitrous, i would stay with a 3.73 though.

if you plan on getting a power adder, then get the 3.73s that way you'll still be able to hook form a launch. If you're staying NA, then 4.1 will give you a harder launch. From what I understand, gears do lower your HP read out, but screaming should really pipe in on this one.

Just to add on...

3.73 if it is a daily driver on the freeway....

4.10 for weekend car or you want the most torque out of your car...

i personally have 3.73 becuase i did not want to hurt my gas mileage that bad...but it kinda didnt help cuz i love to gun it now hat i have the 3.73... Its all on you though...

You've gotten great advice so far... It's really going to boil down to what your goals are and what type of driving you do...

I love my 4.10s around town... absolute blast and wouldn't give them up for anything! LOL! On the highway I end up running at 3,000 RPM at around 80MPH... Can you handle long trips with the car turning 3K? You can try it out by crusing at 3000RPM for a while... i tried it out by driving without O/D for a week! LOL!

As other have pointed out, if you have a power adder on your list of mods to come you may want to consider the 3.73 or even leaving the stock gears in... While I love my 4.10s around town but at the track they give me to much torque when I spray and I end up with a lot of tire spin... I would be better off at the track with the stock gearing... BUT... I drive around town a heck of a lot more than I go to the track! LOL!

And yes, don't be surprised if your dyno number change... your HP will tend to go down... while your torque will go up...

Thanks alot for the input guys I appreciate it. I'm really not on route at the moment towards a supercharger or any spray. This doesn't really mean that I may not want to do this down the road, but just not really sure about how it will effect the life of the engine. Since this is my first car that I cherish, I don't want to do something severe that may end up ruining my engine. I really like your comments about the around town driving scrming, that sounds nice with the 4.10's, although, I will be driving home from Arizona to Wyoming for summer and then back to Arizona in the fall for a couple more years...this is why I am considering the 3.73's. Hmmm its just about a toss up

Are the HP #'s actually lower or do they just appear to be lower. Like will it actually take off 5 Hp or will it just show on the dyno that it aint there but it really is? Same with the tQ. Is your TQ basically the same too it just shows more on the dyno or do you actually get more TQ?

Red face

FWIW: I decided to go with FRPP 3.45 instead of 373 or 410's. IMHO a 6% upgrade from the stock 331's to 345's will still give me enough kick in the pants, although I won't ever get sub 14 second times with a Normally Aspirated motor w/ 345's I can live w/ that....

IMO, I wouldn't even bother with 3.45s. It's not worth the money for the install unless you plan to get an LSD at the same time. You won't notice a change in performance with that small of a change and you'll still need a tune to get your speedo right. Either go with 3.73s or leave the stock gears in.

Yeah I'm really just thinking about getting a truetrac system and either 3.73's or 4.10's installed at the same time to save cost...I'm really not considering 3.45's

Yeah, but how often are you going to hit the track? You'd barely notice 3.45s, on the street or on the track.
