http://www.sctflash.com/xc2.php

I wanted to give everybody some feedback on the new Xcal2 that just came out. I got mine in the mail the next day after it was released from Justin at
http://www.velocitymustangperformance.com/. (I'm in the Navy and in no way affiliated, but thought people would want to know where to get one) His shop is right down the road from SCT, and he picked up a whole load of them the day they got released, and shipped mine out the same day already loaded with my favorite tunes. I even got serial number "3", so he's the man for getting you one. Great guy to deal with, and very informative, and patient. I was very anxious to get this tuner after SCT kept pushing back the release date. But it was worth the wait.

The product looks great, and is very simple to use. To be honest, I was a little apprhensive, flashing my brand new car, but let me say, there is nothing to it.

First of all, I pulled the three relays under the hood for the electric fan, two of them, the high and low, and the fuel pump relay. Very easy, just pop them out. The owners manual you which ones (it's raining, or I'd go look myself). I assume this is to prevent any current spikes during programming. I bet you could do it without this step, but wouldn't risk it myself. Then plug in the cord under the dash into the OBDII slot, above your left knee, the cord is "idiot proof", so you can't plug it in backwards. The unit comes on. From the main menu, you scroll down to the select PROGRAM VEHICLE, then you scroll up or down to find which tune you want to upload (it holds three custom tune), and hit select. It'll prompt you to turn the key to on, but not start.

Now it will say DOWNLOADING, which takes a while, like thirty seconds , and once it's done, this is the part that freaked me out, it said ERASING MODULE or something like that, and I was like, oh snap! It's erasing my computer! And it was. It had downloaded the stock tune, and was erasing it off the module so another tune could be uploaded. Which I figured out after it again said DOWNLOADING and the % complete, which went even faster than uploading the stock tune.

After it's done, it'll say PROGRAM COMPLETE, hit select, and it'll say "Turn Key OFF'. Did that, then hit select, and I was all done, just unplug the XCal. Then, I tried to start the car, but of course it didn't because I was a dumba#% and didn't pop the three relays under the hood back in. Car no workie without fuel pump. I gotta start laying off the crack.

Then took it for a ride. I had also just installed the JLT CAI which is totally awesome, and looks like it's ment to be there, since Jay painted it Mineral Grey, but time to test out both new products.

This thing HAULS THE CHILI! I mean the throttle response is amazing. MUCH better than before, no hesitation that I can feel. Revs quicker, and butt dyno is off the hizzle! This HAS to be 30 RWHP. I've done lots of mods to lots of cars, and sportbikes, and I've never done a mod that had this much feel of a perfomance gain, and was so easy to do (obviously no supercharger, NOS, turbo yet). I had never been able to bark them in third with a passenger before, but that's not a problem now. It'll roast 'em in second, and bark 'em in third all day and twice on Sunday. I'm sure everybody on here can probably bark 'em in 3rd/4th all the time, but this me, and I'm not good. Like I said, the feel is amazing. I took a fellow '05 owner with me, and thanks to StangNut for coming over and helping me with the instals, and he was really impressed. He said he's didn't roast 'em in second like that, and mine never had before either. I'd love to get it on the dyno to see.

Anybody else with a JLT/SCT 93 tune w/dyno numbers w/5M?

Great product, easy instal, nice gains, I give it a

Raining now, but pictures to come. And charging the laptop to do some datalogging.

Were the tunes included for the JLT? Or did ya just tweek the tunes you had gotten with the Xcalib? I just ordered the K&N last weekend, I'm gonna try a different dealer for warranty issues because mine said NO WAY for flashing the computer, that's why I didn't get the JLT. I live like 15 min. from Jay. Cool write up by the way.

Well thats great for the tunes he sent you. But can you modify those tunes or any tunes, on the car, or do you have to put it on your computer modify, then reinstall like orig. xcal software. I know the predator your supposedly able to modify right on the car. has this changed with sctxcal2. I hope so, cause I am interested in it, but if you have to goto your computer every time you have to make a change could be somewhat of a hassle. Thanks for any info, as this is brand new.

The JLT tunes were already loaded, since I told Justing I was hooking up the JLT the same day (love that too!). Just plug and play.

My dealer just said flash it back to stock before I bring it in.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the write up!

Well if anyone knows about making adj. to the tunes on the xcal2 while on the car let me know. I am not sure about it, if you have to modify tune on computer, then download to xcal then to car. That is why I think a lot of people went with the predator before, as you could actually do it on car, didnt need to have a computer, to modify. But any info on someone that knows about adj. on xcal 2. Thanks for any info.

can you modify those tunes or any tunes,
Yes, you can adjust your tune with just the unit.
From their website:

The XCalibrator 2 has both end user adjustment and high speed data logging capability. Using the keypad, you can make changes to your timing, fueling, fuel injector size, and dozens of other parameters.

I don't know a whole lot about adjusting a tune, so I'm not going to mess with it right now. But I'm going to get more familiar with it.

From what I understand, the new Xcal 2 does everything the Predator can do and more, like turn of the TCS, use a USB cord, can read any input from 0-5V, etc.

Right now the Xcal2 has no user adjustable features on the unit, but if you have a good dealer I'm sure they'll work with you and help you out.

This week SCT should be releasing a version of Extreme Tune for the xcal2, this will allow you to make changes on your PC and put them on the xcal2 (connected to your PC with a standard USB cable).

In the next few months there will also be software and firmware updates for the Xcal2 that lets you change all of the advertised parameters right on the xcal2 handheld, along with some other neat firmware updates in the future. And the firmware upgrade can be done over the net, and they are free.

I would just not say anything to the dealer, most don't know enough to make a valid judgement. When you flash the car back to stock with the xcal2 they will never be able to tell (and you should flash it back when you take it into the dealer).

Now this is interesting... I heard that the dealer could tell if you had flashed and then flashed back the computer.

I want to get a cold-air intake myself but was afraid of the tune because I don't want to void warranty's etc.

But if they can't tell then that changes things

Do you guys recommend the JLT intake? And where is the best place to get one?

Thanks for the report man

Thanks for the correction, sorry about the confusion, I didn't realize it that it doesn't already do it. Glad to hear it's coming.

Here is my 2 cents worth on the dealer issue, for what its worth. From what I have heard on the boards and talking to my dealers techs, they can tell if they dig hard enough. Unless they have a reason to they won't. Lets face it, its hard enough to get them to do any warrenty work. now if you have to be towed in with 5 rods sticking through the block they are going to want to know how this happened and try to point the blame at abuse. But the burden of proof is on them. Also, these cars are new and no one including Ford knows what will happen after 50,000 cars have 30,000 miles on them. I just put mine back to stock to have my shaker 1000 replaced (skipping on the outer tracks) and 2 bolts replaced that were missing from the dust cover. They never even popped the hood. (They let me go back in the shop and watch). I wasted my time changing everything back. (by the way, the best way to Feel the gains from the JLT is to take it off after 2 months with it on, She feels like a block of lead powered by a briggs and straton 5hp. no spunk at all) If you use your head and dont beat on the car every time you drive it you should be fine. They cant fault you for getting on it once in a while, thats the way Ford advertised this car to be driven. As others on this board have suggested, if your dealer refuses to warrenty, try another dealer. some are cool with it and some stink. Modding your stang is the best part of owning one. So I say mod away, but use your head. CAI and a tune will not kill your car, unless its a bad tune. Use reputable vendors like Jay (JLT) and DTP tunes and have fun.

I highly recommend the JLT intake, you can get it straight from Jay, just give him a call or email for details, 757-335-1940 jay@jlttruecoldair.com

Here's mine, painted Mineral Grey by JLT. (25 bucks extra, and worth it)

Yes, it doesn't currently have it, then there will be a (free) update for it and then it will.
