Thumbs down XCal2 - On Device Data Logging & LiveLink

I'm running the latest version of LiveLink (3.1.41) and have the most recent applicable firmware loaded in the Xcal2.

I get device connection, application exception and debugging errors. The LiveLink "Help" feature even generates an exception error for me in the latest version and will not run.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues? If so, what issues and exception errors?

Check out the support on sctflash.com - you may need to update a few drivers on your computer...or, if you're like me:

I've never been able to datalog with the SCT X-Cal 2. I can datalog on the device, but can't upload it into LiveLink. I've posted and bumped on the sct forums to no avail. There's a few of us with this problem. I can't tell if it's the SCT2 or the livelink. If you're still within 90 days of purchase, you should be able to exchange your SCT2 with the dealer you bought it from.

I didn't bother to start learning how to datalog until after my 90 days was up.

I'm running Windows XP Pro and it's completely up-to-date. You get hosed if you don't have .NET squared away. I have ALL of the latest updates and drivers from SCT.

I’ve had my X2 for almost two years and got it from Doug. It’s great, so is he and the tunes he cooks. I don’t want to waste his time with this since I can successfully log-on-device, it’s just that “LiveLink” for “On Device Data Logging” is NOT ready for primetime IMO.

I’ve been all over the SCT forums and they are full of similar issues but answers to the questions are not forthcoming. It’s a programming issue on their end which is obvious to me by the things that were addressed and repaired in this latest release; they fixed some things and broke others like the “Help” menu for example.

Given the simple example above, is anyone running LiveLink release 3.1.41 able to open the “Help” menu successfully? I get an exception error and the Help application terminates.

Hmmm, I couldn't upload the parameters I wanted logged to the X2 with 3.1.33 so I went to 3.1.41 and then I could.

Me thinks I'll try my same setup on another computer to see if LiveLink doesn't like the laptop I'm using.

Ok, FYI . . . . I loaded LiveLink 3.1.41 on two different machines both running Windows XP Pro and get the same errors, like this one when simply opening the Help menu item.

"An unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will be shutdown immediately.

The system cannot find the files specified."

No matter what you click it terminates. Yes, I loaded LiveLink in the application's default location.

I guess I'll await the next release and see what it fixes or breaks.

Have you emailed SCT about this? They probably want to know about bugs in their software.

Yup, I've listed the issues and "Help" menu example on their "LiveLink" forum.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm well aware of Doug's customer service. I headed up a group purchase from him of about 40 Xcal2s for forum members back in 2005 so I'm also aware of his work load and hence I respect his time.

I'll wait for SCT to respond to the issues I'm experiencing with their software.

Does it give you an option to display more details? Does the error indicate the file it's looking for?
