Seems to wide to me. It has been pretty much accepted that 255's is as wide as you can "safely" go with. I am running 275's Nitto's on 9.5 wide rims and that looks right.

Are you going to be using them just for racing or DD'n too?

I was told they would be fine for drag race duty and have been trying to find a cheap set of OEM 17's for that exact tire.

Only driving to and from the track and drag racing. I have four 17" premium rims, two for those two tires. Do you care to purchase the other two?

For those purposes, you should be OK. I'd say they're too wide for normal street driving, but I've seen those tires on stock wheels lots of times. Heck, that's the combo of choice at Brenspeed for budget racing. Check it out here:

ok, thanks, someone beat me to it. But I will get some new ones, thanks again. At least I sold two of my rims, and can now buy new tires.

FWIW, a lot of guys run the 275/40 on an 8" wheel, but they fit better on a 9". The best DR I know for the 17x8 is the 275/50-15 M&H. They aren't a true 275 (8.8" tread width), so they work great on an 8" wheel. BUT... they are 28" tall, so you probably want 4.10s back there.

6k miles of use, 85% thread left????

And for the record, I call on the above. After 6k miles, you'd be lucky to have 40% tread left, and that's only if they never had any burnouts.

They will work fine for your intended purpose. I ran 275s on my old cobra which was 17x8 and DD'd it. They will bulge a bit, but for a drag radial it's perfectly acceptable.
