Will my '05+ SCT Xcal2 work on a 99-04?

I'm getting ready to sell my car and a friend made me an offer on my Xcal2 because he wants it for his '00 Mustang GT. Obviously the tunes won't work, but if I put the stock tune back in my car and he buys the correct tunes from a programmer, will it work on his car?

No, it won't work. S197 cars have a completely different computer than the previous generation Mustangs

Actually that is incorrect. For I started out with the X-Cal II preloaded 9415 SF programmer. In which included base tune files for. 96-04 Mustang, SVT Focus, F-150 Lightning, Mercury Marauder, and 2005+ Mustang.

Once I decided to upgrade to Bamachips tunes. All I had to do, was re-format the 9415 from a preloaded tuner, into a custom 9400 X-Cal II programmer.

Then uploaded Doug's programming files into the programmer, via e-mail and finally into my Stang.

As for the S-197 having a different computer. That also isn't accurate. As Ford has been using the same OBD-II computer in the Mustang, since 1996.

All that's really changed. Is the switch to drive by wire, and nothing more !

You can clear it to a base (blank) XCal2 and then upload programs. The part number on the SF (9415) and XCal2 (9400) are the same. Give me a call and we can provide you with them over email if you'd like! I can do a (3) tune package deal for a reasonable price and you'll love the power increase!

The part numbers are indeed different. Why do you think the preloaded X-cal II SF is referred to as the 9415 model. While the custom version of the X-cal II, is referred to as the 9400 model. I ought to know, being that I had to convert/re-format my SF-9415's software to the 9400. before I was able to upload my Bamachip tuning files, into the programmer !

My apologies Adam. I thought you were referring to my post, as your post somehow ended up getting submitted after mine.

OK. Well I'll direct him to this thread if he buys it and if it doesn't work, I'll let HIM deal with you guys.

(Now who wants to buy an Airaid CAI? )

Sold the tuner today to a friend with a 2000 GT. Hopefully it works out.

Worked great. He called BamaChips and they emailed him a new tune. That's all it took. Nothing else. Just the new tune.
