Compared to 91 from any of the other 49 states , CA 91 is more sensitive to knock and seems to have less power density. In other words, it has additives in it that make it knock more easily and dilute the actual energy making fuel
So based on this knowlage is anyone tuning programmers for Cali gas?
If not tuners ned to be aware that the gas sold in California is differnt then gas sold in other states.
this infomation was determined by independent testing done in Utah with a WRX STI using both cali 91 and utah 91, the results were astonishing as the cali gas knocked at a much earlier point and they were both sold as 91.

Yeah, they do the same thing in Colorado during the wonter months.... use more ethonol and other oxygenators. gas milage goes to heck as does performance. and it seems that the people that make these regulations just don't understang what pinging does to your motor.

I got my Predator tune for my JLT intake from Brent at DTP Racing in FL. He adjusted the tune to account for the 91 oct Cali crap

I can adjust for 91, 92, and/or 93 octane fuels and yes there is a HUGE difference. I've sold many X-cals to guys in California and even tune for a supercharger company based out there. I flew out to SF back in March and truly found out just how bad the 91 is out there, hahahaa.

I believe they adjust based on experience. It may not be the perfect way, but I couldn'tfind anyone in So Cal that had good experience tuning the 05. I didn't want to be the guinea pig
