Who should do the work? Dealer or Speed Shop?
Hello everyone!
Just did my taxes and have decided to take what I am getting back and spending it on my beloved '05 GT. My question to you out there is who should I have do the work? A local dealer that sells and installs Steeda and FRPP products) or a speed shop that will install anything I want? My concern revolves around not just the quality of the work being done but potentially voiding the warranty. If a Ford dealer installs aftermarket parts like Steeda, am I protected against them voiding a warranty claim? If I go to the dealership, I will be settling for less than what I want on the car. If I go to a local speed shop I will get what I want but run the risk of screwing myself later on. Which would you choose?
Regards,
Jon

I personally only will trust my car with a couple guys. I don't like a dealership because I can't keep an eye on my car. I go with the performance shop for anything I need. My guy has never done me wrong and does great work. He goes above and beyond most of the time. I think you have to find someone you can trust and then check out some of their work before you decide. A shop that isn't restricted to a couple of manufacturers might show you other options and pose different opportunities for your car.
As far as voiding your warrenty goes, it would depend largely on what exactly you are installing. if, for axample, you have the dealer install a supercharger, and your engine blows up in a year or two, ford will most likely Not pay for extensive repairs or to have a new engine installed. personally, i wouldnt use the fact that the dealer performed the installation as a way to protect your warrenty. based on that, i wouldnt worry too much about going to the local speed shop. if anything, they will have a better idea of what they're doing and will be able to protect your investments better than a dealer. Good Luck. -Dan
Everything comes with instructions. Read up on the subject then give it a go yourself. Any problems and I'm sure the forum would be able to advise. I agree with Paul, much more satisfaction in doing it yourself, much easier than you would think (well, depends on what you want to do). Plus the money you would save doing it yourself you could throw back into the car.
Depends on the parts as far as warranty, but I don't let anyone else work on my car. It was painful enough to hand over the keys for a few minutes to have my free oil change done and you'd better believe I was watching the whole time to make sure nothing happened to my car.
