Has anyone had their new 05 tuned? I've been in touch with an SCT tuning center about getting my car tuned. What kind of HP increases are you getting? All im doing is a CAI and a tune and the price I was quoted was $650. I will get the Xcalibrator tuner along with 3 performance programs on the tuner and 1 installed in the car and a dyno run before and after the tune. Also the stock program to return it back to stock for dealer work, and a USB cable for updatable internet downloads for new performance maps. The CAI will be installed by myself prior to the reflash. They are claiming a 20 HP increase at the crank. Should I shop around or is this a good deal? They seem to be very knowlegable with this type of work and have a good reputation. Also as far a aftermarket CAI go im only finding two noteworthy brands MMR and C&L, Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

With a mmr and a regular gas tune, I ended up with a 14.5 rwhp increase and a 17 rwt increase. The shop I used is very confident he can still get more out of it when I decide to switch to 91 gas. My cost was about $150 more than you were quoted, but that's prolly the way it is being in So. Cal.

I have the MMR intake installed and the SCT Xcalibrator is enroute to my place as I write this. I have a shop that I can dyno the car on but don't know anyone that really knows how to "tune" a car so this could be a fun and interesting weekend.

As far as price I hate living in Canada right now because everything I order is from the US and then I pay huge shipping and duty fees.

Porche-

The SCT doesn't allow you to tune anything. It allows you to insert a program into the computer. Someone else gives you the program.

In order to program it yourself, you need more expensive software developed for tuners and dyno shops. Then you need to work with a dyno so you can ensure that you aren't leaning out your car too much.

Without specialized equipment and software, nobody "tunes" their stock 2005 Mustang.

I OWN the freakin unit. You do not. Besides, that's not even their website.

The "free software" requires that you get an extract file from your dyno tuner. You are only allowed to change a couple of parameters. You cannot tune your own car with it.

Please don't go spreading BS. You don't really seem to know anything about the SCT XCalibrator, don't go confusing people who really want to know more about it.

Well porche if you think loading a program is tuning your car, then so be it...

Porsche, maybe I am wrong but we are talking about the STC Xcalibrator, not the SCT Extreme Flash Tuner. The Extreme Flash Tuner is not for the 2005 Mustang.

I have the SCT Xcalibrator and the MMR CAI. Also have the Magnaflow catback with the paks. I have an appointment for the Dyno on Friday. Will post the results next week. I am expecting anywhere from 20 to 30 HP increase at the wheels.

Welcome to the forum. This is starting to be a popular combination. I have the same setup. Looks like my SCT Xcalibrator should arrive tomorrow. Unfortunately for me the only thing I can do is flash the computer and then dyno it (hopefully saturday) but I really don't have anyone that knows how to tweak (tune) the car to get the best performance out of it.

I have the SCT X-calibrator and have yet to see my check engine light stay off after the second start/drive of the vehicle. I have replaced the factory tune with 2 different performance tunes. I am working with a tech through e-mail and he is sending me tunes as fast as I ask for them but it is definetely not a tune yourself gig yet, I just download and try again. The tech informs me that a full version of Quicktune 2005 will be available from SCT, it has been the discussion of much controversy for 2 months now on the SCT tech forum.

Porsche-

You need a flash tuner in order to reflash your car with a tune provided by a dyno shop. I wanted the SCT because I can easily and quickly change between flashes, such as putting in the stock flash before going to Ford for warranty work.

Most people don't have the money or expertise to do a home-tune on the computer. Most people, if they were given the softare and cable, would blow up their motor or make it unusable. The days are gone where you dropped in points, put the cap back on and tuned it by sound

If I remember right, I heard the warranty mechanic can tell that you have been flashing/reflashing the vehicle and can still deny a warranty claim if it is tune related.

Anyone else hear that?
