I can't afford new rims and tires yet, so in the meantime I'd like to make the wheels/tires appear a little wider. I used wheel spacers on my 85 P-911 Carrera to give it that "turbo-bodied" wheel appearance without any negative characteristics. Do the Mustangs respond well to widening the track an inch on each side with spacers, or am I gonna get the shakes? How about the quality of what's available for Mustangs: do I worry about the studs breaking off the spacers and losing a wheel at, say, 120mph? Any experiences would be helpfull.

 

Try Acadian...he used them and had a 1" set for sale.

 

The 1" spacers I have work great on the car... and look great as well. $100 a pair and came with new lug nuts/bolts. I definitely recommend them. I had a thread about this with pics a while back. Here is the link:

During my NHRA drag racing career, spacers/adapters we're banned from use. I watched as at least 2 cars with them had them fail, making exits from under the cars, tearing up body panels in the process. If you want to bring your tires outward, IMO, the ONLY way to do it properly is to replace the rims.

 

.... in my opinon the wheel bearings don´t. "love " those spacers. The torque at the bearing raises significant.. I would stay stock.

I have used Maximum Motorsports spacers with good success. I have used 1/4 inch spacers on these cars.
